Full Version: Writing The Melody

This might sound a bit ridiculous but I'm currently writing a piano Rondo for my A2 level composition. I have the A section (after a lot of work!) and now am onto the B section but I'm facing the same problem as I always have-I really can't write melodies. It either doesn't work or sounds boring!!!
For the B section I wanted to modulate to C or F major (the A section is A minor)
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

1) Sort out the harmony first. Roots A, D, G, C, F are a bit of a cliché but will work.

2) Write a melody over them that conforms to the best of your aural judgment. You may be able to read somewhere, or get advice here from someone who has a better knowledge of theory than me, on how to produce a plausible melody by decorating harmony notes with apoggiaturas etc.

Thank you for your reply, I used the the chords first as you pointed out and have a melody at last!!!- Now I'm just trying to make it a bit more exciting!
