hi, yes, am happy to be on stand by list. although im a piano teacher i rarely get to perform and would love to play some Einaudi. thanks

No worries. I'm going to have a word with the venue, if we can over-run I might be able to squeeze you in anyway smile.gif I've gone back to playing some of his stuff lately... I was playing Primavera last night before bed, actually! laugh.gif

If I cut right back to just doing my accompanied piece with Juniper (c. 2-3 minutes), would you be able to jam BeSharpNotFlat in Sol? smile.gif

Possibly... what would be nice would be if people could give an estimate of how long they're likely to play for so I can see where I can split slots up. Any time left over at the end can then be dished out to those who have played the least and want to go again.. smile.gif

The other option is to book up until 5pm, but some might find that a bit hard going...

Clarinet with Juniper = 3 minutes. Piano = 0 minutes unless someone drags me kicking and screaming to do a duet laugh.gif

Ok, for those who came in a bit late and who are being "squeezed" in, I've assumed split slots. Also, as skyers said she could split some of hers off, I've set her as a split slot too smile.gif Once I have an idea of what everyone is doing, I can do the maths and figure out where we are.

I don't need the full 12 minutes; 10 is fine. Thanks. (Barry can have the two and do a solo! tongue.gif)

Should be another great day! Just a thought though.....could we know what (piano) pieces are being played in advance as there are a lot of people this time! Would save any duplications on the day. smile.gif

Am happy to accompany if required.

A good idea Daisy Chain. biggrin.gif ... but I know for sure I would need to decide closer to the time and if a few of us beginners happened to be working on the same pieces we might not have time to learn new ones, especially after spending ages perfecting them laugh.gif, so we might just have to accept the odd duplication!

Closer to the time we could roughly propose what we play then if there are many duplications sort them out before we have got too far on them. Perhaps people that are working on exam pieces for exams get priority. I do the odd exam piece but not the exams, so I can play something else if it clashes, but would need time to prepare. (lots of time blush.gif ).

I can update the first post with proposed pieces smile.gif I've put mine in already ph34r.gif

If people want to post in here or let me know via PM it would help. I remember my mad panic previously when I had to play something else that I was quite rusty at instead! laugh.gif Obviously nothing is set in stone but it's nice to have an idea.

Can you add me in as well?

How long would you be looking at for your pieces, Hotair? I think we're at the upper ceiling now, and I really don't want people being felt like they are not being treated fairly if we run out of time. Perhaps you could split a slot with someone else who isn't playing for long? I may be able to convince the venue into giving us an additional 30 mins or so, but don't count on it! smile.gif

KatyJay - no problem if you can sort out an accompaniment smile.gif

I didn't really expect these events to become such a quick "sell-out" ohmy.gif

There's plenty of space on the Baroque day, all! biggrin.gif

I'm not sure how long I would want to play for. I will fill whatever time is allocated.

A 5 - 7 min slot would suit me, thanks smile.gif

Not sure yet what I will be playing unsure.gif

I guess I'm a bit late, but... if anyone is stuck for something to play, would there be any interest in a piano/trad fiddle duet? Maybe 2-3 tunes, about 5 minutes in total. (I don't play any piano myself, but I'd love to gatecrash your event and finally meet some forumites ;-)
Mini_mo
Oh dear I seem to have the longest slot! blush.gif I had better get cracking! biggrin.gif
scotliz
I am not sure what I would like to play but it will either be two grade six pieces or two grade seven pieces (or indeed a combination...I will take the advice of my teacher).

So a choice from Grade 6

Andante Cantabile 2nd Movement from Sonata in C, K330
Morning Bells, Opus 109, No 9
Ballad Improvisation, Denes Agay (probably not).

Or

Grade 7

Romance sans paroles opus 17 no 3 (just beautiful and my favourite)
Poulenc Nocturne No 8.

I love all the pieces. I am playing Ballad Improvisation at Teddington which it is on my probably not list.

I would just like to say thank you to folk who organise these events. Special thanks to Looneytunes for the Cardiff event last weekend...superb. I may look to organise a venue in Gloucester - easy access by train and road.

Don't want to interfer with this thread though so please pm me if interested
skylark
I'm not sure yet what I'll play - I could play some of the G1 pieces that I've been learning, and/or Marche Slave that I played at Leeds, and/or anything else that I've taken up between now and then. Perhaps if there's anyone else around G1 standard, we could liaise nearer the time to see if either of us are thinking of playing any of the exam pieces smile.gif
Juniper
Hmm, wonder if I can get Guaglione ready by then, might get people in the mood for the pub lol :-)

Aw....thanks for that. smile.gif It was great hearing you and your duet partner play, scotliz - absolutely stunning - and several of my colleagues thought so as well. Hope to see you again soon, and count me in for an event in Gloucester!

Solari's Grand Gatherings are getting a reputation for being fantastic events - hope to make it to one in the future. I find it tricky to commit to events more than a few hours' away from Cardiff during term time but if I happen to be down in London on the 10th July, could I come along and watch?

I'm sure Sol will be along in a moment, but if you're around on 10/7 (or indeed for the Baroque version on 22/5 that still has playing slots, or any subsequent dos), it'd be great to see you again smile.gif

Hi LT,

The problem with this event is that it's already oversubscribed and people are taking shorter slots than they would normally get so that we can fit everyone else in. This makes the event cheaper per person, but we're at the tipping point where people won't feel they are getting value in the form of piano time. wink.gif

If you're in the area you could pop in but I can't guarantee a playing slot, I'm afraid - that wouldn't stop you coming along to the post-event social part though! smile.gif

You'd be more than welcome to play at the Piano/Harpsichord/Baroque day! smile.gif

I'd like to arrange another one before July but what with everything else that's going on, I can't see where in the calendar it would fit... There seems to be plenty of demand so I might just go ahead and book one anyway.

Perhaps add a piano-y element to 22nd May? There's a Fazioli, and it seems a shame not to use it to its utmost... biggrin.gif

I already updated the post to attract a bit more interest.. smile.gif We have 4 hours so it'll be easy for people to play whatever they want for a portion of the day!

The Baroque day does look very attractive and would be easier for me to get to smile.gif (although I'm more jazz than baroque piano-wise ...). Could certainly bring violin along as Barry suggested. There's something semi-scheduled for the 22nd May which I'd need to rearrange but hopefully I'll be there!

If anyone is interested in a similar event in Cardiff (not wishing to steal an idea but it happens to be a very good one! tongue.gif ), I'd be more than happy to get something together. As it happens, there's a piano event that I'm arranging for my teacher's students in March so it's easy enough to do.

Sounds good smile.gif I think you'd get a good crowd of pianists to go. I think there's a lot of mileage in possibly doing something stringy in Cardiff, too. I'd definitely be up for that... biggrin.gif

AAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I've just discovered that the 10th July clashes with something else argh.gif

It's the Whitley Bay Jazz Festival that weekend, and my soprano sax hero is going for the first time in two years - Thomas Winteler from Switzerland, I've posted about him several times before. He's fantastic on soprano sax, and on clarinet, but particularly sax because he plays the music of Sidney Bechet, my favouritist jazz musician.

What's more, it's going to be the last Whitley Bay Jazz Festival because the organiser is giving it up after this year argh.gif

What shall I do??????? argh.gif

I am so sad to hear that you wont be joining us after all, maybe we are just destined not to meet? lol, one day maybe?

Hope that you have a great time at your Jazz festival. Wish I had managed to work out going to Dyrham Park not, but the trains just seemed so awful! Maybe next time.
