Hi everyone
I'm entering a pupil for Grade 5 theory for the March date. We're looking at the writing a melody topic at the moment. We're working through the AB book, and in the answers for this topic they repeat some of the words you've got to write the melody for. Nowhere in the explanations does it say you can do this! The relevant question in past papers has very short phrases to put to music, so I wondered if you're expected to repeat some of the words here. Does anyone know?
Thanks for your help.

I haven't seen an answer book for the Music Theory in Practice texts but, in preparation for my own exam I tackled all twelve exercises (pp 43 - 46) and never once thought that words could be repeated. The vast majority of words provided fitted 8 bars - a standard length at this grade. I'd stick with that.
If however, repeating words would be necessary to stretch to the natural feel provided by eight bars, it would make musical sense, so I don't see how they could be opposed to such a response.

Thanks, clavicembalo. I would never have thought of repeating words, but the answers book clearly does!
