Hi, I'm stella and I'm fr Malaysia. I'm taking my Grade 6 theory in like 31 days and I'm quite terrified because my teacher says i'm not prepared enough for it. U see, at my school, they make u take grade 6 lessons4 2 years before u're considered prepared enough for the ABRSM but I objected against the system because many of my friends did their grade 6 in a year and i didn't want to be left out.
so far so good,.. i've finished the past theory exam papers, 98, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 My teacher marked them but she's pretty lenient so I don't think my marks would really reflect on my future grade. THen, I took my school's trial exam paper and it was SO DIFFICULT !!! and the teacher who set it and now marking it remarked that i didn't apply what i learnt and my music knowledge isn't very good. I'm not sure whether I passed or not.....I thought i had prepared well but i think she's right, I know what it means but i don't know how to use it or what it's for. Now, I'm analysing my other papers although I'm still struggling a bit in Question 4 and 5.
Is there a more effective way to study music theory ? and how should I revise now since I've done all the papers ? I still have a 1999 and a 1997 paper to do.
Can anyone suggest how to answer the Question 4 and 5 and how to understand what it's really about ? I'm really keen to hear other experiences ( as in like people out there who've taken the exam ). Please, I do need help in this. I really want to pass !
Please if you have any helpful suggestion or you have experienced what I'm experiencing now, exam jitters..........do reply or email me at slsl1990@hotmail.com
