I have a lovely 1960's Baldwin upright - mine is really good but I've been told that as a brand they are a bit hit and miss. I played a Bechstein once though . . .

I have a Kemble.
I like it ... but I didn't really have a choice because they are mostly making pianos with extra notes now and this was the only one I could get that would fit where my piano lives.

Hello,
Just wondering... does anyone own or have heard of this Cristofori piano (model: JC 122)?
Thanks!

I have a sweet little H. Bord of Paris. I got it from an old lady i know...it's dreadfully out of tune!!

I have a Kemble. I found it a bit bright when I first got it new and kept wanting to have it voiced. But I have now got used to it but if I was buying again I think I would a second hand Broadwood or similar one with a more mellow tone.

I have a Sauter upright piano. I like it very much because I don't have room for a high piano and this one is only 1.06m , but still has an incredible (and loud! ) sound.

Following a post elsewhere, evoking the most profound jealousy, I went out and bought a Grand Woohoo.
When you press the middle pedal it makes grade 1 works sound like grade 8.

I don't know how to... as I have two pianos at home
I have a Kawai upright (with silent function, CS-AT21s), which enables me to practice at night, for nearly 5 years. It is still very good sounding and a lots of fun to practice on.
I have recently bought a Yamaha C3... a really loud sounding piano! Enormously larger range of dynamics and resonating bass! I am going to get complained by my neighbours someday though!
Congrats on your Grand piano... I have developed a thought that every serious piano learners/players should constantly play on a grand, and try to own one someday! Hee hee

I have two pianos (because I'm spoilt

) - a Bechstein grand piano, and a Bluthner upright piano. Although I love them both dearly I play the Bechstein most for solo work so I voted for that one. I use the Bluthner for accompanying and teaching.

I have a Bluthner upright, made in about 1895. I would love a grand really, but I doubt I'll ever be able to afford it.

My piano is a Yamaha SU118 upright bought it in April this year because my old piano was on its last legs and also I am hoping to take DipABRSM in piano performing next year sometime needed a decent piano. I would have liked a grand piano but I just don't have the space.

me 3...what model is the grand? actually talking about grand pianos has anyone seen those funky schimmel grands? not sure what the sounds are like though...but they look good...well some of them anyways.
I am considering getting the new silent yamaha grands - not quite sure how they work, because you can plug headphones in...does anyone have one? if so is it good and how does it work?

I don't have one, but i think (correct me if i'm wrong) when you plug in the headphones the strings of the piano are muted and it switches to a "digital mode". So with headphones you are not actually playing the strings anymore, but the sound is coming from a digital sound module. I don't know what the quality of the sound is though.

I've got a Yamaha Clavinova. Very convenient and all that, but a part of me longs for a real piano.
Or there's also the Woohoo Deluxe. Not only does it do the middle pedal thing, but it will also pick up a takeaway from the local curry house when you've had a trying and tiring day.

You're not trying to sell things over the forum again are you Cheeble? When you tried to sell coloured notes things got a little interesting
Must try out one of those Woohoo things for myself, but I haven't got much room for one... do they do Upright Woohoos as well?

Parents have the 100-odd yr old full (not quite concert) Bechstein grand I grew up with, totally totally fabulous.
I have a Boston (Steinway upright, whoever was asking) but currently use a Yamaha Clavinova CLP170.

Hi,
Mine is a Petrof, about 10-20 years i think. The touch was hard, but sound undeniably loud, and i just luv it! I get it tuned once a year....
I use a Kawai Grand (GE series i think) at music school, that one is nice, too, except for some 'heavy-metal' sound at E, and one loose pedal

Does the brand of piano make a piece harder to play? For example, it's harder to bring out the melody of Chopin etudes on my Baldwin, the keys are very hard and heavy compared to the Schnabel piano.

Not for everyone. Oscar Peterson's piano is a Bösendorfer. Some prefer its mellower sound, others like to exploit the extra bass notes they provide on one of their models.

Mine is a Yamaha, and I really like it... it is only the second piano I've had, though, and the other one was absolutely terrible, but I don't know what it was. (It certainly wasn't a Woohoo)

That's interesting - my Baldwin has a very light touch.

I have an electric Technics piano and i really like it!! it's got a really nice touch and sound quality, however, no electric piano can measure up to a "proper" one!! I really need an upgrade, however, there's no hope in ###### of me getting one!! lol

i love yamaha pianos because the keys are soft and the sound quality is good. i dislike kawai pianos though, the keys are extremely hard and its hard to play split chords.
