I read that the examiner may ask what period a piece of music is from, i feel i could recognise which some pieces are from but not all! Any advice will be appreciated! Thanx

I think recognising the style is more important than recognising the actual piece. I'm not sure what grade you're doing or anything, but I found that for early grades it was fairly obvious and for later ones my GCSE and A-level music notes were a real help.

If you don't know, you may as well have a guess, because you may well be right and earn yourself some marks. However, don't worry unduly about this because it's only a couple of marks from the whole exam, and any time worrying too much about it would probably be better spent practicing pieces, scales etc which are worth more.

Good luck biggrin.gif

Hi missmusic

Im struggling with this as well and as you know my exam isn't far away lol!!!! I did a post in the general discussion forum and got quite a good reply which said the main thing to look out for in each period, if you can find it, it might be of some help!!

hi missmusic. jrbs daughter here. i took my grade5 today and right at the end of the aural test he played me a piece and asked me to tell him the time signature, the style of music and why i thought that. i find it hard to distinguish different styles so i agonised long before the exam. But dont worry as it isnt a major part of it, just give your honest opinion, preferably with a reason to back it up! biggrin.gif
