I've recently been given a Hupfer upright piano. I can find out very little information about it, other than the fact that the Hupfer factory was at Zeitz in Germany, they started production in 1874 and ceased in 1956. I know it's an early one because at some point it had candle sconces. Can anybody tell me anything about it please?

My teacher took it to bits and inspected it before I accepted the offer from my friends to have it, and he said it was in very good condition and needed very little restoration work. He said I could have a professional technician look it over but didn't think it was worthwhile because there was so little wrong with it. He restores pianos himself and and he's going to do the restoration work, although not the tuning.

Sorry, Ive never heard of them.
But for the record, if my German is correct, a 'Hupfer' is a Hopper, someone who hops !
In Mahler' s 4th Symphony the soprano sings (from my memory) - 'Wir hupfen und springen , wir tanzen und singen' ( we hop and jump, we dance and sing). Hopefully your piano will do the same ! laugh.gif party1.gif

laugh.gif It could be a bit awkward though if it starts hopping around everytime you start playing it! laugh.gif

Sounds like that piano would be well-suited to Jamie Cullum!

"Hup" must be popular for German pianos.
I have a Hupfeld.
