Wondering if anybody had any experience of the additional three B list pieces at grade 1... before I go and buy the books. No sign of them on youtube, I wonder if that means they're not very good!
They are: Cavatina (Dvorak); Dragonflies (Heylar); Theme from the Unfinished Symphony (Schubert).
Thanks!
Digby
I haven't got any of them either but my notes from the AB seminar when they launched the syllabus were:
no comment on the Dvorak, a smiley face and 'good festival piece' written by dragonflies and LH balance on the Schubert.

I seem to remember Dragonflies was a lovely little piece.

Theme from the Unfinished Symphony (Schubert).

I have a boy doing this on Tuesday but he cannot play his 'A' piece!! He is also doing Bluemerang which he CAN play.
This Schubert arrangement consists of the tune in LH and repeated quaver chords in RH. Once you get half way the piece repeats (written out) with an ending final bar (held chord). I don't like the book as a whole but the piece is certainly worth doing; it's a doddle if this lad can do it.

I found Cavatina on Youtube, liked it and have just got the book (here's the YouTube link). It's also got in popular classics such as the Toreador Song from Carmen, Polovtsian Dance, The Trout, New World Symphony, Royal Fireworks Overture and Minuet, William Tell, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik etc etc.

I've just learnt Dragonflies from a friend's copy - as Digby has said, it's a lovely little piece and very easy to pick up (eg like Song of Erin if you've played that one). I'm going to get my own copy because I imagine I'll like some of the other pieces too.

The Unfinished Symphony is good, if a little tricky. The book is worth getting, though, as there's loads of other pieces in there that are worth doing.
