Had the inclusion of the D major Toccata allowed sufficient room in my Dip' programme for other things, I would have chosen to study it, in preference to the other toccata on the list, in e minor. As it is, I've gone for the P&F in D instead.
I've tackled several of the toccatas in the past, my favourite being the one in c minor. That in d minor seems to vie with the one in G major for the easiest of the set.
The trouble is, I'm now returning to them having had piano lessons for a year and a half and I notice how poor my renditions used to be. I didn't observe fingering, articulation, you name it, in fact I think the notes were the only thing I might have got right! The downside of being so much more musically observant happens simultaneously to be the upside for future attempts.
Is my favourite harpsichord toccata in fact the most difficult of the set?
