Hello everyone. smile.gif
I'm taking grade 8 this May; I'm having some trouble with the first section:
1) What method do you use to practice for the singing (lower part) from memory? I can never hear the part!
2) Can someone briefly explain the last section of section A (identifying chords in cadential progression) in roman numerals?

Thanks in advance.

Hearing the lower part:
a) Practise hearing the lower part of a two-part melody, as in Grade 7.
b) Practise hearing the lowest part of a three-part melody, but have the two upper parts quite far apart from the lowest part. The registral separation should help you pick out the lowest part.
c) Practise hearing the lowest part, as what you would get in a typical example for Grade 8.

Cadential progressions:
Perfect = V-I or V7-I
Plagal = IV-I
Interrupted = V-VI or V7-VI
Imperfect = x-V (x can be I, Ib, Ic, II, IIb, IV, IVb, or VI)
