Left it all until the last minute as usual and am thinking of bringing them all to heel on Sunday morning with this one. (I'll let them out to something rousing)

I've been note bashing on the piano and have more or less got it licked but haven't been able to try out registrations and won't now until Saturday.
It is mp and Novello (Book 18) suggests Choir and Great 8ft, dividing the passages between in call -and- response, noting it clearly enough, but is that really all it needs?
Would a 4ft stop improve the clarity of the lines? I only have 1 4ft stop on the Swell (don't have a Choir manual) and it sounds rather harsh but there is a 4ft flute on the Great that sounds nice.

Any thoughts welcome.

Yes I would be inclined to use the 4ft Flute (provided its not too bright, eg a Harmonic Flute would be OK) , it might be a bit dull and bland otherwise. I have a Swell Gemshorn 4ft that would be suitable, but my only 4ft on the Great is a Principal , far too intrusive.

I know you can couple the Sw to Gt but off the top of my head I don't know if it works in reverse i.e if I draw the nice 4' flute on the Gt, will it sound on the swell when I'm leaping from one manual to the other?

Having a blonde moment and can't remember the exact name of the nasty 4' swell stop but it is tolerable when the box is half closed; trouble is, you need to open it up when the pedal part enters towards the end.

No most smaller organs do not have a Great to Swell coupler.

Ottery St Mary in Devon has one. The stop knob has green lettering whereas the other couplers are all in red.
