I'll probably return to plodding through the Allegro movement of my Schubert Sonata with a metronome. I thought I'd got most of the RH arpeggio-like sections mastered, but one of them seems to have unravelled, so it's back to dotted crotchet = 54 and slowly work back up to the desired 72. mellow.gif

My TV has only been working sporadically for some months now - I haven't got around to getting a replacement, having used iplayer for those few programmes I particularly want to watch. So when it stayed working earlier, rather than the picture 'collapsing', I left it on and consequently have postponed this evening's return to the keyboard, peppering forum threads with inconsequential badinage instead! biggrin.gif

Anyway, I shall now do the washing-up, before turning in and listening to the latest instalment of Bram Stoker's Dracula, on BBC radio 7! ohmy.gif sleep.gif smile.gif !

Sounds very heavy duty to me.

My only advice would be to do a 'good enough' job, rather than trying to get it all perfect.

Also, regular doses of vitamins* to keep your spirits up!

*vitamin A = A little of what you fancy does you good
vitamin B = brown = chocolate
vitamin C = Cadburys
vitamin D = dark chocolate
vitamin E = easter Eggs (seasonal)
vitamin K = Kinder Eggs (available year round)

What a contrived question. Not the sort of thing anyone would be spending much time on if some deranged examiner had not thought of it.

Anyway, I am going to SLEEP when I log off.

Ok.... (and feel free to ignore this if you have already done it.... )...I can't help with the sociology and Marx etc and I'm not entirely sure this will help but I'm going to try.

This is something I remember being told on my course. (I'm paraphrasing):

We have to remember that many people have been failed by the education system so are either distrustful and/or unsupportive of it. They may believe that it's no good for their children either. These children then come into education with all this kind of "bagagge" and it's hard for them to break out of the mould, believe they can do well etc. So I guess that what went on in the educational institute the parents attended did indeed shape their future (and that of their kids) and their views of the value of education.

I guess what I'm saying is that we are a product of our experiences (including our schooling) and that we in turn use our experiences to inform our views, values and opinions about the world. We then also use these views, values and opinions in our interactions with others and in raising our children - so we can influence others quite considerably. As within Western society (at least) our children spend 18 years within the education system it must have quite a pivotal role in this. A positive time in educational institutions can breed more positivity within those individuals and their offspring. However, it will take a lot to erase people's distrust formed by negative experiences.

I have no idea if this helps.... unsure.gif smile.gif

I intend to pay a visit to the piano part of Weber's Grand Duo Concertante and Brahms' two Clarinet Sonatas, to see if they appear any easier than when I last played through them a couple of years ago, perhaps more significantly, before I took up having lessons again. fingersCrossed.gif

Then in the afternoon, either GCSE Maths, AS Economics or AS Psychology.

Oh so lucky you MT! I am boringly off to give the penultimate lesson to Grade 2 treble recorders and Grade 1 piano before their exams. However I am also doing the penultimate lesson with Grade 5 piano - super nice kid with a real flair - so perhaps it's not so bad!!
