Thanks for bumping this back up, Baz!

Ah - good weather is forecast, muffinmonster - so a nice sit-out in the garden area at the break, I think!

Thanks for your good wishes, Violin Hero - sorry you can't make it as it's so local to you!

Looking forward to it already...

Great! And hopefully Baz and benjaminja too!

David has some more lovely music for us...and all the solfa is written in, so no problem with vegetables laugh.gif !

(PianoNotes will explain about 'vegetables' when I see you!)

Indeed it was!

Good to see not only muffinmonster there but also barry-clari, PianoNotes, onion, Willard and benjaminja smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif .

We had about 38 participants this time and again made a pretty good noise! We sang some gorgeous music...

Next meeting is 6th June!

A very enjoyable afternoon's music. biggrin.gif

Good to see plenty of forum representation, and I hope to be back again in the autumn (I sadly can't make June or July).

The time just flew by. I'm rubbish at sight-singing but did manage to get the rhythm correct and move my mouth in the correct places.

Thanks for the reminder, Barry. I am not sure about next week yet. All I have been thinking about for the last 24 hours is going to summer school but am not sure if that will be happening this year.

Just been emailed the next four dates : Sept 12th, Oct 24th, Nov 7th, Dec 4th.

Of those, September's and October's look OK, November is definitely out (that's the date of Lois' forum concert in Birmingham), and December's is out (4th is a Saturday unsure.gif )...
Sunrise
Wish I lived closer, this sounds great. Unfortunately hubby won't let me fly over each time LOL

Cyrilla, is there a book that I could at least learn the basics from? My nearly 6 year old has just discovered singing and I did a bit of kinestetic hand up and down motion to help him (had to learn the verse and chorus of waltzing matilda for school) as he wasn't listening and now he is singing exactly in tune unaccompanied. He really enjoyed it too, and I'd like to build on it as he doesn't have the best concentration ever...

I'll hopefully see you on the CT course next year but I don't want him to wait that long.

SOrry, threadjack over!!

Cyrilla, I won the race back to the forum tongue.gif laugh.gif

The December meeting is indeed a Sunday, the 5th.

That still looks an iffy day, but two from four is pretty good...

What great fun it was! biggrin.gif I was really nervous going in but after 5 minutes I was feeling like I've been doing this all my life. It was really interesting to see that we managed to sight-sing pretty well in Solfa but when we switched to the actual words, things quickly fell apart... (No doubt Cyrilla will say such is the magic of Solfa tongue.gif)

And of course, it was lovely to finally meet Cyrilla too smile.gif

All the future dates are now in my diary happy.gif

Glad you all had a good time. I would have loved to have been there. September is a possibility if I am in a fit state after a Music Minds Games workshop in Cambridge all day Saturday and then straight to a party in the evening. October and November unfortunately clash with Chopin Society concerts and duties. 5th December is a definite yes.
Cyrilla
Hope to see you at the September and December dates, PianoNotes!

I am sure the answer is on here but I can't see it...

Is Jolly Music - the first book - aimed at preschool and book 1 for infants?

The first book (Beginnners Level) is intended for use with children from age 4, i.e. Reception.
The second book (Level 1) is aimed at 5+, Year 1
The third book (Level 2) is aimed at 6+, Year 2.

However, you can start with older children and work through the books in order. You could start Beginners as late as age 7 (Year 2).

Hope this helps.

There is a 'Jolly Music' thread in the Teachers' Forum (entitled 'Big Plan #1'!).

I think you could use a fair bit of the 'Beginners' book even with young Y3s who haven't worked in this way before, too.

Oh thanks, I couldn't find that thread.

I teach preschool classes at nurseries and need some new ideas, picked up some great ones at Kodaly classes at RNCM JSP a while ago...actually, that was 14 years ago now I think EEEK

Will buy a book!
