I always play scales to warm up! That way I start every practice with scales and I must say that I rather like playing scales

I do some to warm up. It makes things easier around the time of the exam.

I dislike scales and consequently don't practise them anywhere near as much as I should do. I admire people that don't but scales drive me up the wall. So I only practise them in my lesson.

I play my scales regularly as a warm-up. That way, I don't forget them.

Most of the time.
When I am short of time then I tend to let pieces take priority.
Scales don't change.. With pieces you need to have made some difference between lessons

I prefer Hanon and Czerny to warm up usually followed by scales.

I don't love or hate scales, but I know that being able to play them well and fluently, so I'm willing to put in the hours in order to reap the benefit.

if you only do scales when you are coming up to an exam you will never know them as well as you should in the exam room, and you won't get all the other benefits that come with knowing your scales really well.

I voted for "most of the time" because if I am practising in little chunks on one particular day I may not have time to do pieces and scales in the same practice session.

You who all hate doing scales, do trinity , as you do not need to do scales, just a " technical study" i.e. probably easy scale patterns for 5 lines.

I find my pieces need more work. I don't play many scales per day.

I play scales not every practice, but at least 10 minutes per day (although it was 40 minutes most days for my G8). I don't warm up with them because they require larger stretches and more complex hand positions than many of my pieces. I warm up with basic finger exercises and practice some etudes before going for scales.

For piano, i feel that scales are such a chore sometimes... so I only play them occasionally, not everyday. I practise my violin scales all the time though, to improve on intonation and technique.

I'm forcing myself to practise now...exams is not very far away and scales are my weakest point.

I always practice my scales in my piano lesson when I'm near an exam (now), sometimes in my oboe lessons rarely in my violin lesson, but I don't practice my scales ever when I'm not near and exam, except in my oboe lessons I often play F major to warm up.
