Hello guys :0 i'm JoeAnne , new here smile.gif
I was a trumpeter and i can reach 120BPM for semiquavers...but not for flute .
I practiced semiquavers for months , now i could barely chase up to 90BPM
I practice the semiquavers by using scales . such as double octaves G major , A major ,E major A
A flat major and more....
I'm preparing for Grade 6 Exam next year .
The song I choosed is A2 B2 and C1
A2 = Largo and Allegretto
Well i can't play the allegretto part as it's 112BPM ....
I am so frustrated ... how can I reach standard of 120BPM for semiquavers?
mind to share the way to practice semiquavers?thanks tongue.gif

I get a funny feeling that you're tonguing too heavily : that's quite often what I find causes slow tonguing on the flute : get your teacher to check.

Otherwise : do everything slowly to start with, making sure tongue and fingers are perfectly co-ordinated, and the gradually get things speeded up. Don't rush to get to full speed.

i guess i shall start with 80BPM again ....

That will do you the power of good JoeAnn. Get it nice and accurate at that speed, then go to, say, 88 bpm, and see how that goes. Don't leap to 120 too quickly.

I agree - this is definitely the way to go. Are you double-tonguing?

Have you a teacher, JoeAnn? If so, maybe you could ask him / her about double-tonguing, as it can really help with fast semiquaver passages. I think we must be a similar standard, as I am working towards G6 too, and have just started looking at this technique.

Just a suggestion! smile.gif

And a good suggestion it is too smile.gif

Many players find they need double tonguing for semiquavers at around crotchet = 112. So it may not be possible to single tongue successfully at 120. smile.gif
