Is Gymnopedie No 1 consider as 19th century composition?
maggiemay
The Gymnopedies were written in 1888 if that's any help

Turn of the Century, I'd say. Although it was written in the 19th Century, it anticipates the music of Les Six, for whom Satie's music was a major inspiration. And it sounds great in the arrangement for flute!

Technically it was written then but I wouldn't choose it if asked to provide an atypical example!

It was on the ABRSM grade 6 list in 1999-2000, if I'm not mistaken smile.gif

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of choosing this piece as one of my audition pieces. This piece is classified as advanced grade (around grade 6 standard) but it seems quite easy to play.
