Hey I'm new here!

My name's Jo (Joanne) but my friends call me Joey so you can call me that too.

I have the username Layla because I'm a Clapton fan biggrin.gif

I'm a violinist, but I also play guitar, bass, I'm looking at getting a saxophone and something I've always wanted to do is play the piano. SO how d'ya think I should go about this? I was thinking just getting a Grade 1 book and working through it. Maybe I could enter myself for the exam at some point too?

Any thoughts welcome! smile.gif

And hi!

I suggest getting Book 1 of Dozen a Day by Edna-Mae Burnam, not the preliminary book (haven't got the publisher details handy, sorry), and working your way through to Book 5 (I think that's the last). With all your other musical activities that should quickly help you to find your way round the keyboard, and the tiny exercises are fun.

Why would you want to do that? smile.gif Be adventurous. Try Bartok Mikrokosmos, or get ABRSM Spectrum Book 2 and work your way through 30 pieces each by a different UK composer.

Hia. You'll love this forum, especially us clarinetists!

Btw, I thought a parent could enter you for an exam if you are under 16? I know that you can definitely enter yourself over the age of 16 or 18. Anyway, how would people that teach themselves be able to enter exams?

Nice place this is. Does it ever have a yearly meeting? I suppose it hasn't been going on long enough to?
