My children's school show/musical is "Scherezade". I don't know it at all and a google has pulled up a variety of results.

Anyone know it and care to give a synopsis of what it's all about?

Any clips to decent versions of any of the songs would be good too. Ta smile.gif

I think it's actually Scheherazade , did you spell it right when you googled ? There are a number of musical works inspired by these legends , the best known being by Rimsky Korsakov (orchestral/ballet) and Ravel ( songs)

Yes, Scheherazade and the 1001 Arabian Nights are the same thing.

I think Rimsky-Korsakov's orchestration is the most well-known (a lovely work) - I have an arrangement for piano! smile.gif

Look up Scheherazade with the correct spelling ( ph34r.gif ) and there should be plenty for you to read. smile.gif

Same here wub.gif (along with several other recordings - it was one of the first classical albums I bought when I was in my teens)...

I've seen it performed lots of times but the best performance I've seen was by the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Emil Tabakov. I saw it at Leeds Town Hall several years ago, and it was so brilliant I went back to see it again in Bradford the following week wub.gif

You can download the full recording by the Sofia Phil from this web site for only £1.79:

Sorry to intrude, but is this the same thing that keeps being mentioned in Steven King's Misery? I remember a similar word coming up quite frequently unsure.gif

Yes< it is!

"But maybe the most important aspect of the novel is the use of the story of Scheherazade, the woman in the Arabian Nights stories who continued to stay her death sentance by telling the excecutioners stories. At first, Paul believes he is playing Scheherazade to Annie, telling her the tale to keep himself alive. Only gradually does he realize he is playing Scheherazade to himself, saving himself and his literary being in the process."

I downloaded the above version but sadly it's a very poor recording - it was barely audible even with the sound turned up full sad.gif There's a Karajan recording on Youtube, in its entirety over 6 clips:

Here's the Fokine choreography performed by the Kirov (now the Mariinsky)

It is danced flat, which is normal for this ballet.
