Full Version: The Fields Of Athenry

I ask this question here because I don't want to gatecrash/monopolise the other thread on which this song has recently been mentioned.

Having just been alerted to this song and having since listened to it on YouTube, is it the commonly sung tune that I hear welling up from the stands at Rugby Internationals, especially when wishing to motivate the Irish squad, much as 'Bread of Heaven' rings out at Welsh matches?

Whatever the song is that I have heard, I have never been able to catch any of the lyrics.

Not exactly a cheerful little ditty! mellow.gif

I wonder why it was adopted so by the terraces and the stands? unsure.gif
