I know how you feel! no matter how much I practise and tell myself that it's going to be all right, I always end up with shaking knees and stomach cramps! I haven't really found a remedy that works yet - sorry!

I don't know if any of you suffer from this, but I actually get so nervous in my exams that I can't do anything, and I start rambling on about what I did last weekend. This is even after I have practised until I can play the pieces perfectly at home. I also came out of my grade 3 and was so nervous that I fainted! Has that happened to any of you?

I get so nervous before an exam but I guess some how you have to try and live with it I mean at the end of the day its only one person and their opinion on how you play might be completely different to someone elses. Although its no fun goin into a violin exam with shaky hands it completely screws up your vibrato!!!

i go all cold, like all the blood has run from my body. quite unpleasant really.
don't you find that you get a feeling of euphoria afterwards when its all over though? that usualy makes up for it

eating a banana a little while before helps - extra blood sugar and natural beta blockers apparently.
remember that a little nervousness adds to your performance, you don't want to lose them entirely... friend of mine once was running late for a uni recital and he said by the time he got there he'd used up all his adrenaline and his playing was lacklustre as a result.

My 'euphoria' was a bout of crying (like half an hour) after the exam. I was so convinced I'd failed my grade 7 clarinet, having been so nervous and adding a nice bit of improvisation in the middle of Lutoslawski (spelling ?)
I was so nervous before the exam my teacher said it wasn't worth going through my pieces because she thought it would make me worse ! I'm wondering what to do for my grade 8 this summer, perhaps go on a self confindence week end ? (shaking hands on the clarinet are BAD, vibrato eat you heart out !!)

Most importantly, try to play the piece as you would at home and let yourself go (not literally

). Music is supposed to be enjoyment for yourself and others-so jsut enjoy the music you are playing and I'm sure others like examiners will to.
Exams are not the end of the world so just stay cool
