Hi. Anyone know if Chopin's Raindrop Prelude has ever been on any syllabuses- and if so, what grade? What are the favourites to play when it comes to the preludes? I've never tackled one before and fully intend to remedy this soon!!!!!

I don't know if it has been on a syllabus before but a previous thread here has suggested the raindrop prelude is about grade 7

I would say about grade 7, although I've had gd5-6 pupils be very inspired and therefore make a very good job of this one too - I've often used it for GCSE performance.
If you only ever play one prelude, this is the one!

Yes I think to play well it would be Grade 7.
The one I really like is an easy one, No 6 in B Minor.

I actually remember it being on Grade 8 some years ago.

Absolutely love playing this piece! In fact, I love most of the preludes, but many are out of my reach right now.

I thought it was about Grade 7 as well. I didn't find it too challenging to learn the notes though. We're currently studying it for GCSE Music - I've been meaning to look at some other Preludes, but have managed to buy the Nocturnes instead...

I think to play it technically perfect, it's well above Grade 7!! All those sustained notes in the left hand (which are ommitted in the ABRSM Easier Piano Pieces edition, but not the Signature Series edition) are really important to the texture and 'feel' of the piece. And the Holding down the chords in the middle section can cause problems too (how many times I've heard this piece played, without the notes being sustained by the fingers!!!!)
