Full Version: Can I Hire Your (good) Upright Piano?

Hi,
I'm a 28-year-old who returned to piano playing 18 months ago after a 10-year gap. Last month I passed Grade 8 (merit), and am now excited to be working on the sort of repertoire I would never have considered a year ago.
Next month, however, I am moving out of a house with a piano, and the options facing me are pretty depressing.
I can't afford to buy a good quality upright, as barring the very occasional genuine bargain they start at £2,000. And if at all possible, I don't want to spend £500 on something which will basically work but won't be any fun to play. I also don't want to hire a piano from a shop as it would cost around £40 a month.
I am therefore wondering whether any reader of this site has an upright piano they could lend me for one or two years? I imagine there are a lot of people who want to get their piano out of the house or put it into storage but don't want to sell it - either for sentimental reasons or because they wouldn't get a fair price in the current climate.
Ideally I'm looking for something under 30 by a good maker.
I would pledge to treat the piano like my own, have it tuned regularly and do my best to ensure nothing happened to it (and no child went near it!) - we could even draw up a contract to that effect. I am moving to London W14 and would obviously pay all removal and tuning costs.
Thanks, hope someone can help
Adrian

I would have thought removal costs twice, plus tuning after each move and in between wouldn't work out much less than £40 per month for a year.

Yep, I agree, especially as it would be over 2 years.
