Full Version: Web Advice Please?

I know that this must be a very tired topic, but I want to set up a simple and cheap website. Advice please! If those of you with sites wouldn't mind me having a gander, then please could you give me addresses? I'm having zero enquiries at the moment, I noticed a complete stop once the budget was announced. I've decided to offer theory classes, and music for mothers and toddlers. I plan to have these up and running by October. I should be able to rent rooms from approximately £5 an hour (max 6 adults) up to £15 for larger rooms - but with no piano, so these will be for groups again. I live north of London, Hemel Hempstead, and the going rate is £25 upwards locally for individual piano lessons. Please could people suggest an appropriate fee for group theory lessons?

A big thank you to all the people who have sent me PMs with such helpful and interesting information! I don't feel quite so daunted now, but maybe I should be!! biggrin.gif

Have you got web space from your internet provider, or do you need to organise some?
Jane S
Basically, all I have is an email address and internet access. A couple of people have been very kind and given me some quite detailed advice, but I am always happy to listen to anyone who knows more about his than me!

Hi, It might be worth checking with you email provider or internet provider. Most of them seem to give free web space these days. When I've created sites for people in the past I've used UKReg to register then domain name and then pointed it towards their free web space. Some have then migrated the site to other servers, ie domain name and web space from the same company.

The alternative, of buying web space with a domain name I think is roughly a fiver a month.

Thank you BadStrad! I am grateful for all the advice I've been getting, with PMs and such like, and as an internet wimp I need all the advice I can get!

Glad to help. Just another few questions. Are you thinking of creating the site yourself and also have you thought about how often you might want to update it. Ie who is going to maintain your site?
Jane S
It will be very simple, with just the equivalent of a few pages of text and information. The idea is that either my husband or my daughter will be able to maintain it for me, as the first is an IT expert (but not web) and the second is an enthusiastic amateur.
