In Il Cardellino (Vivaldi Op 10 no. 3) in the Allegro - 1st movement, bars 15 and 16 - there are demisemiquavers between A2 and D3... now... is there some sort of special fingering for this or do you just have to be appallingly good? Because at the speed I have heard it played, I just can't imagine ever having the flexibility in my diaphragm or my fingers to get back and forth that quickly!! I need to lay my hands on the cd, now that I have the sheet music, to see what it sounds like played by a pro... But seriously, is there some sort of cheat fingering, or is it just flippin' hard?

Have you checked the various trill fingerings at this site?
http://www.wfg.woodwind.org/flute/I no longer remember what fingerings I used to use, and begorra, I was never good enough to be any kind of role model, but there are gazillions of alternative fingerings that are near enough accurate for a rapid trill.
Also go back and look at the manufacturer's chart that came with your flute...trill keys vary quite a bit.

It is going to sound tedious but you will have to practice it at about 1/2 speed and build it up. It will be hard work but imagine the good feeling you will have when you have accomplished it.
This
site might help

Is it possible to slur them to make it easier?

I need to listen to the recording to see what they do... but I don't think slurring would make them that much easier... the abdominal control you need to keep both the D3 and the A2 clear at that speed is what makes it hard.

Yes I know, it looks like you are just going to have to get a recording of it, and then practice, practice, practice!

I am sure I answered this post on another forum, but yes, basically, take them tempo right down, and slowly build it back up. Maybe create some warm exercises which involve slurring. Good luck!

oh another post when I forgot to subscribe to my own post - bah!
I listened to the recording today - it's William Bennett... I feel he does slow everso slightly when he gets to the demisemis, but basically he seems to just do 'em, tongued n all... I wonder if he double tongues them. But yes, they are insanely fast. Lol. Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day and I won't become Wibb in one either...

and no one seems to know any cheat fingerings... so I guess I'll have to get mine moving as fast as they jolly well can!!!

bless you! that looks like it will be really helpful. if not for this piece, then for the future!!
if I ever play this piece properly, ie do it with a teacher or for an exam, then I guess that'll be when I find out any cheats or secrets!!
(and... oops... have ended up with two of the same thread in one forum. d'oh. sorry. I wonder if they can be merged? are there any mods in these forums?)

Unless you exchange your hands for ones with quick fingers then unfortunately I think you'll have to do the whole slow-metronome thing and build it up. Good luck!

Looks like it. Just as well I can do it in my own time! I'll just be practicing two bars of that piece forever!!! lol. Must be good for both fingers and abs, though.
