Hi everyone!
I'm currently entering my third year in a Bachelor of Music program (majoring in flute performance) in Canada. For third year in my program, I have to prepare a half recital (about forty minutes of music). I was wondering if anyone has suggestions of repertoire for my recital. I already have a few picked out: Great Train Race by Ian Clarke, Sonatina by Burton, Reinecke "Undine" sonata, Kembang Suling by Gareth Farr, and Concerto in D minor by CPE Bach.

To round out my program I'm looking for some great flute pieces that aren't necessarily in the 'standard' repertoire - I want something more out of the ordinary/less common. I'd also like a real challenge! Any suggestions of some challenging flute rep??

Thanks in advance smile.gif

T.Boehm. Grand Polonaise, Op. 16. Beautiful piece & challenging. Check out Denis Bouriakov playing it on Youtube. Regards Philip

He's also put a recording up of him playing an arrangement of the Mendelssohn violin concerto for flute and piano, for which the sheet music is available to buy. wub.gif

Also, how about things like Borne's Carmen fantasy? There are some lovely bits of recognisable tune that float around, and some really crazy stuff. Hue fantasy is also fab, but pretty mainstream I think (though when I played it none of my flute friends had heard it before). Martinu sonata is pretty, and Carnival of Venice is a good showpiece. What about flight of the bumblebee? Everyone loves that laugh.gif
