Has any one seen it? I thought it was great, and my mum said they havent changed the music much from the stage version. Only problem is i will be singing the songs for weeks now!

I saw it when I was very young-what I do remember of it was wonderful. smile.gif
Helen
Are you talking about the new film or the stage production?

I've watched the staged version! It's fantastic!

I then went to purchase the music score book tongue.gif

I'v had a CD with some of the songs on it for quite a while, but when I was in the cinema, my friend kept poking me because I was humming along... rolleyes.gif

I saw the film on Monday, and the stage version back when it was new. I think the film is very good - M*nnie Dr*ver and M*randa R*chardson are especially superb. But, what were they thinking when the cast the role of Christine! (Or is it just me?)

They made good use of the things you can do on film, that you can't do on the stage (swirling camera views, close-ups, etc.), but in my opinion the film does not touch the thrill of live performance. When I saw the show, the singers were generally better (in my opinion, of course), and the joy of being the Opera Populaire audience for some of the scenes, as the chandelier swings over your head and the managers urge you to remain calm, cannot compete with watching a fake audience on the screen.

Don't let this stop you seeing the movie, though. It's worth it for the exquisitely choreographed Prima Donna sequence alone!

Except that Minnie Driver did not sing in the movie, its a voice over of a music teacher from Solihul. smile.gif

I saw it with only 5 other people in the cinema, so I don't think anyone cared!

My sister (she took me to see, cause she loved it so much... twisted logic there...) just couldn't keep herself quiet!
nicki_flute
Knowing me I will be singing too!

Ive seen the film as well, and I really enjoyed it, but agree with whoever said 'what were they thinking when they cast the role of Christine?'. If she wasnt so beautiful she wouldnt have got the part.
I also have this bugbear about Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals in general - why does he feel compelled to use a symphony orchestra then combine it with synthesized 80s pop style drums! (or are they just rerally badly recorded?)
Helen
My sister ordered the soundtrack and it came today!! woohoo! I've been listening to it since I got home at 5PM laugh.gif laugh.gif
nicki_flute

I've seen the film twice now and want to buy the soundtrack. I have fallen in love with this musical. I want to be in it - playing La Carlotta, I think that would just be *funny*!!!

I went to see it in London a few years ago. It was amazing. The only downside to it is that my dad knows all the tunes and he sings them ALL the time. Talk about headache...
