I want to know which voice group I belong in. (Methinks they're called groups, but I mean like Soprano, Tenor etc.)
Now, I know you can't hear me, obviously, but is there a guide somewhere online to identify the features of someone's voice?

What's your range? I've a useful book somewhere that gives you an idea, but if you have not got a trained voice, it's not much help really.
I went to a teacher thinking I was an alto, and was told that no, I was a soprano.
My range had changed quite a lot since having lessons.

Soprano = high female (approx A below middle C to at least 2 octaves above that)
Mezzo-soprano = middley female (approx F below middle C to 2 octaves above that)
Contralto = low female (about the same as a mezzo but can go slightly lower)
(You can get female tenors but they're rare)
Alto (male) = Same range as female contralto, but male
Tenor = Can reach some notes above middle C, generally up to about A or so... not sure of the bottom range because I'm a girl, and this is a male voice!
Baritone = low male voice, down to v low notes (help me out guys!)
Bass = male voice, lower still.
Hope this gives you some vague idea of what you might be. Work out your range by playing notes on a keyboard and seeing if you can sing them!!
Also, telling us whether you're male or female might help (then we can strike about half off the list!!)

cool cool!! I expect you're probably a tenor... male altos are quite rare... but then, if you sing alto in a choir, you end up stuck in with all the girls, which can be looked at in either light really!

I don't have singing lessons and have a rubbish voice but I doubt I could ever sing 2 octaves!

I am not a soprano definitely, maybe an alto or mezzo soprano...that is if I had voice training but I'd be too embarrassed to have lessons!`

Well in that case I am definitely not going to go and have one! I would probably die of embarrassement after the 1st note. It is bad enough infront of my teacher and the examiner.

When I am practicing aural with my teacher, I think "Poor her!"
It isn't that I have a completely horrible voice, I just have a tiny range and get embarrassed because I hate hearing myself (I don't mind singing in the shower though!)

thanks cecilia! mezzo-soprano does sound more impressive than just soprano!
