I am taking a statistics GCSE this year and am basing my coursework on music and need some information to be able to carry out this coursework. I would be very greatful if you could fill in the below fields for your main instrument (the one you began to learn first)
Are you male or female?
What instrument do you play?
How old were you when you took it up?
How long have you been playing?
What grade are you?

Piano and cello
Started piano at 4, cello at 9
Hmm....I'm 13 so piano for 9 years, cello 4 years
I think I'm post gr 8 but not at DipABRSM level yet. My repertoire is not "even", e.g. I can play Chopin etudes already but not a single Bach fugue. For cello I'm around gr 8, too.

Natalie, you need to put the FIRST instrument you learnt, otherwise it will distort the outcome of the survey!

I know that others have put other instruments too, but the person who began the thread did ask specifically for the first instrument.
For the sax, you already knew how to read music, and of course playing the clarinet will have helped an awful lot with tone production and how to play generally. If you'd started the sax with absolutely no prior musical knowledge (unable to read music etc) you'd have taken a lot longer than 6 months to get to Grade 6!
PS You know that I don't mean this in a nasty way!!

I couldn't help but pick up on this, but I think you made a mistake. If you took it up at 9 and played for 5.5 year, then you're not yet 15, but since you're doing your AS levels I suspect that that's not true.

If my memory serves me correctly, Cecilia is taking GCSE's, and music AS level, having taken GCSE music last year. Feel free to correct me though.

Doesn't that still make her either 15 or 16 then, not 14?

Helen and Nicki are right. I took up the violin the June before I turned ten, and I was fifteen this September. I am in Year 10 doing the first year of my GCSEs, but I took music GCSE last year and now I'm taking the AS level. Sorry if that confused anyone!
