As most of you know, I work at home Mon and Fri, and at our Horsforth Office Tues/Wed/Thurs.
Our Group MD has issued an edict on 'personal' Internet and Email Activity when its through the company server, indeed has banned it. As a Director of one of the companies in the group I have to set a good example, (indeed I have probably been one of the worst offenders!). This means I am unlikely to be on line on Tues/Wed/Thurs during the day, though I may sometimes be able to get up to date in the evening from my hotel on Tues/Wed evenings, and of course I have no problem when working at home.
The main consequence will be that I will not be able to do Musical Horses everyday, or check for any PM's etc

Time for an iPad?

Motion seconded.

(And btw, if you already have an iPhone, don't bother with the 3G version, just tether your phone's connection).

If you have an iPhone and good eyes, then arguably you don't need the iPad.

BTW do you have to jailbreak the iPhone to tether the iPad?

I like the way that Apple are "cracking down" on apps that turn your iPhone into a WiFi router, for example. God forbid that you actually make the thing more useful than it is with half the ridiculous apps out there... rolleyes.gif This makes jailbreaking pretty much a necessity if you want to do anything useful network wise.

Poking around a bit it looks as though the answer to my question is YES.

The whole tethering thing actually has quite a bit to do with Apple's contracts with the carriers. I do know iPhone users who have Jailbroken them and they are absolutely fine. It's perfectly possible to restore to factory settings if anything goes wrong. Personally if I were to go for an iPad it would certainly be a 3G version even though I have an iPhone already. I don't much care for stringing things together.

I would check your settings in My Controls first, just in case you've inadvertently clicked on the wrong button and turned them off. If they're still OK, you could try contacting one of the mods. It happened to me a while ago, not just for topic notifications but also for PM notifications. It turned out that they'd been doing some techie stuff behind the scenes which had affected my settings, can't remember the full details now but they did put it right and I haven't had a problem since.
