Have any of you ever thought that by starting an entire thread for one person who made it into Cambridge, you may well be making some of the students on the forum feel rather small because they didn't?

it really is quite an achievement!
is Cambridge where you want to go?
(may seem a dumb question to some, but there are after all other music departments and differently tailored courses and the whole ethos of the place doesn't suit some people once they've been there on interview!)
to get (essentially) unconditional from Cambridge is really really impressive... WOOHOO, GO YOU!

Awww thank you all so much!!!! *goes all twinkly*
I'm pretty sure I will go to Cambridge... it does mean that I don't have to work for the rest of the year after all!! (Although I will, because my grades mean a lot to me!!) But I really liked Cambridge when I was there; the people were really friendly and the place itself is beautiful... and I liked the course too, lots of composition!!
sarah-flute
Jan 2 2005, 12:26 PM
Cool

I hated it when I went for interview!!! lol! I came out and met up with my mum and said, "I don't want to come here!"
But I think I applied to the wrong college, it wasn't "me" - too big and too proud of itself.* And the courses at two other places suited me more - way too much literature if you study languages at Cambridge - not that I dislike studying literature, but I didn't like the lack of choice.
It is a beautiful place, I visited a friend who studied there. We went punting! Very fun.
If the course is good then WOOHOO! I think that is by far the most important thing - secondmost it being a place where you would feel comfortable living and studying. GO YOU!!!!

as I said before... seriously impressed.... an essentially unconditional offer from Cambridge is really a stunning achievement! WOWSERS!
* (they asked me in my interview basically "why should we give you a place?" and to this day I wish I had gone with my instinct and said "why should I come even if you DO!")

I should perhaps warn you that Cambridge doesn't have a social life. The nightlife is nonexistant, the student bars are expensive (although open to all, and a little cheaper than my local, so I occasionally go to some of them) and students tend not to go out a lot at all. It's worth it though, since you get 2 months or so more holiday than everyone else, and you get a better degree out of it

Shame this thread had to be spoiled by mealy-mouthedness in certain quarters. Cheeblinia and everyone else who achieves an objective deserve a mention. Compared to another person, this is little... A few weeks ago I thought the forums were to be changed to ABRSN but no, the site survived the day!
Great, Cheebles, congrats and if you like it there so much the better!
We'll send noo-noo along to clear up your discarded semi-quavers and things.

Anyone who's known and loved on the forums and then has a really great achievement (be it an unconditional offer to Cambridge or passing grade 1) is going to get congratulations... The tesco's in Bar Hill has a huge cheese counter.
Not really anywhere else great for cheese in the city center, which rules it out for students since you're not allowed a car as a student (university regulations).
Hmmph, and now I need to drive to the aforementioned cheese counter, as I have a craving for Gouda.

Hi,
Yes thanks, I did. We had snow (yippee). I got to play my niece's Saxophone, and I sounded seriously dreadful. I don't feel like getting back to "normal life" one bit. We have to take down the xmas decorations on January 6th coz that's what tradition dictates, but it's my birthday on the 7th and the house looks dreary without the Advent Lights. So I'm thinking of being a bit radical and not taking them down until the 8th. Wow, what a rebel, eh!
Hugs

PS. Getting the thread back to Cheeble, I had Wensleydale with Cranberries crumbled over Baked Beans and it was surprisingly nice. And I thought to myself "I wonder if Cheebs has tried this?"

We had snow - on Christmas day, too! not a lot, but still... first even vaguely white Christmas that I remember.
Happy Birthday for the 7th, Amber. 7th is a good date to have a birthday, whichever month it comes in (not that I am biased!
