Hi all,
I'm just wondering, for Grade 7 question 3, which would you choose for exam.. (a) or (b) ?
Q3 (b) feels a little easier as it is what we have been doing since Grade 5, but it needs at least one modulation, am I right?

It really depends on what you are most comfortable with.
For preparation I'd do both and only stick to your favoured option on your last set or 2 of practice papers before the exam.
I think I favoured the a) option as you have a harmonic structure already there for you.
Never did get my head round the b) option based on a chord progression.
Modulation isn't essential if it's not specified in the question though it can add interest.

I see. I thought modulation is a must even though not mentioned, 'cuz grade 7 requires students to learn modulation.
I get what you mean. Thanks a bunch!!

Question 3a requires you to complete a melody with keyboard accompaniment. The keyboard accompaniment is given in full. If the accompaniment modulates then the melody must too.

As a pianist who has done a good deal of accompanying, I find that I can hear an answer to 3(a) more readily than I can for 3(b). I have yet to take Grade 7 Theory and might actually skip it, going straight on to Grade 8, but I did complete all the exercises in both methods in the Workbook, in preparation.
