I have a friend who's violin is green and I thought this was really cool so I wondered (and there probably is) peeps out there who have multi coloured instruments. biggrin.gif

There's someone in my school who has a purple violin, but you tend not to get different colours on woodwind instruments, especially on the more professional models. Personally, I prefer the standard instrument colours, especially when someone is playing in an orchestra situation.

My sister has a bright yellow and red recorder, though it isn't that cheapier one, qand has a very good tone!

... can you get flutes in any colours other that silver/grey/gold etc, anyone?
sarah-flute
I remember seeing a site once that had flutes, or maybe just headjoints, in titanium, that could be all sorts of colours or even rainbow. Naturally, I can no longer find the page... and now google won't even load up for me. I don't know about clarinets, but ye, you can definitely get at least a coloured headjoint (maybe more) for a flute.
flutieplayer
i havent seen any woodwind instruments with different colours, but i kno that on the flute if u look at james galaway for example, he has a gold plated flute, but he got da personally made tho, v.expensice lol.

There's a girl at my school with a bright blue trumpet.

And my electric violin is black and purple.
jstark
Either boring natural wood or black, apart from my flute which is silver (funnily enough)

I have a bodhran with a dark green frame. Does that count?
Katet
You can get lots of different colours of violins and saxophones, but from what ive seen, the violins are not good quality, made for appearence rather than tone.
liebe_klavier
saw a silver trumpet (my friend's)....that's quite common... violins i have are boring, dull brown colour.... my piano is also dark brown....so as the organ i practise in my school....

Looking in a school catalogue once I did come across some coloured clarinets for beginners - bright red and blue.....

you have an electric violin? groovy! is it fun?
purple pianist
My violin and piano are basically brown but I knew someone witha bright yellow violin and someone with a purple one but it looks odd when she plays in string group and our instruments are all wood! Also I don't think its very good as it NEVER EVER stays in tune! grrr it gets so annoying.

However yesterday I did see a baby pink guitar and that looked sooo cool!
Saxophonist
A girl wh left my school 2 years ago had a had a very dark colour saxophone which was either black dark green ar dark purpel depending on the light
Katet
I like black saxophones, there is something cool about them! My electic violin is a kind of reddy-browny colour!
missfabflute
I saw in Selfridges that they were selling a blue, green and black violiN!

but i didnt play the violin so....tongue.gif

A coloured flute would be nice...

Also my mate has got a Bright Yellow flute she has 16 different colour instruments

I think if I turned up to orchestra with a violin coloured anything but brown (and what a beautiful colour it is not) I'd get kicked out. It's a good escape technique though, for when I finally decide that it's orchestra killing me, not softly though.

In my opinion, too bright or odd colour makes music instruments look like toys...once I saw a person in my church orchestra bring a red and green saxophone. It looked like junk to me.

My son had a blue rainbow violin when he passed grade 1. He wanted yellow but that was too bright for me. You can get violins in a whole range of colours. Rainbow violins make about 8 colours with matching colour bows. Harlequin Stentor also make a new range of colour violins too. If you want quality there are GLIGA violins that come in numerous colours and not only that you can have different prints such as leaves, butterflies, the american flag, zebra print. Check out www.violinslover.com for the colours avaliable. Our uk stockist is ELIDATRADING who also posts on this site check out www.elidatrading.co.uk

Now for the woodwind. You can get alto saxophones in blue, red, black purple and white. I have a site for these too somewhere. Clarinets come in red, blue, purple, orange and green I think, purple definitely come in blue and purple and maybe green and red. The instruments are standard entry instruments and probably could go up to grade 3 but not sure of the quality. Maybe someone else can help with this.
Amanti Trumpets come in about 5 colours red, blue, purple, green and orange and kelly trumpet mouthpieces come in over 9+ colours in various sizes.

These colour instruments are all the rage for the kids luckily they seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper these days, in fact the price is nearly the same as a traditional outfit.
The other thing that is really in is colour gig bags and not cases for these instruments.

Yeah, my teacher has a see through mouthpiece on her clarinet because it has a nice tone fior when she's recording. I said that it wouldn't be nice because you could see all the spit but then she said that when you're recording no - one sees you apart from the sound-person. biggrin.gif tongue.gif

Do you reckon they'll make me a pink flute? huh.gif
frumpybabes
Don't know the company is called Avalon. There are red, green, blue and purple and they all look very nice.

Would you count this as racial discrimination, I wonder?

it's great!!!

there are 2 other violinists at the music centre and a cellist who also have electric instruments... so we have a kind of electric string quartet, but with a third violin instead of a viola...

lol...

friend of mine makes violins/violas/cellos for a living, and has told me that the pale coloured ones are generally not welcome in orchestras because they stand out too much - and he makes reeeeeally good instruments, so we're not talking just like school orchestras. boring, eh? dry.gif

someone on the yahoo flutenet list has a blue flute smile.gif
sarah-flute
lol... I checked out the ebay site with the coloured flutes... they say, "This flute incorporates features that you would only find on more exotic instruments..."

exciting, eh? these exotic features?...:

Hard-shell soft lined case................. (ooh er!)
Cleaning rod ....................... (steady on!)
exciting color! .........................(that IS unusual, I'll grant you...)
Die cast plateau style nickel keys .........................(wow....)

that just struck me as really funny... a cleaning rod is exotic...?
