I am very sorry to say that Clavicembalo ( David ) died last Saturday.
I PM'd him to ask how he was, and his sister PM'd me back and asked me to ring her.
David took a turn for the worse and died in hospital.
She said he had been very happy of late, and enjoyed his forum friends and get togethers.
RIP David.

He was so much fun at Dyrham park and at the last Baroque day, he'll really be missed this time around - seeing him sitting at the harpsichord made me chuckle! I assume a funeral will be announced at some point - can we send flowers?

I am shocked and saddened. I have never met the guy but I feel really upset. I was just thinking how quiet it had been as he hadn't been posting. I enjoyed his posts and I was so impressed with the way he shared all the ups and downs of his diploma with us - so helpful for the rest of us who aspire to taking a diploma at some point.

I'll miss his wit and humour, his enthusiasm for maths and music, his kind help to me over piano matters, and in person he was a lovely gentle giant.

RIP David - you've brought your own light to a lot of lives both here and elsewhere, and you'll be remembered with much affection.

I was just thinking, that as a teacher he will have touched the lives of many, and his love for music and mathematics will doubtless have inspired many of his pupils. The passing on of his infectious kind of enthusiasm to others is not a bad thing to leave behind and be remembered for.

I'm so glad he got to perform on his namesake to a bunch of us forumites.

RIP David. If there's a "heaven", then maybe he'll relish the challenge of learning harp!

No... I can't believe it.

I am in total shock! He was such a lovely and fun person, he will be missed!
I will always remember us discussing Albeniz at Dyrham Park and him playing several of his pieces after our conversation. He was a great pianist, an excellent sightreader and a wonderful person.

Very sad news, condolences to his family.

For those who never met David, here he is doing one of the things he liked best - playing the piano, the photo being taken in the Great Hall at Dyrham Park last April. He played Happy Birthday in the style of lots of different composers, including Schoenberg - very clever, and very entertaining!




And here he is at the pub afterwards. It was the first time he'd met anybody off the forum, but he took it all in his stride.




He'd been looking forward to going back to Dyrham Park at Christmas to perform with Fred Chopin and Clara Schumann who he met at the April event.

Like so many people here, I'd never met him in person but I grew to appreciate his gentle humour and wit. I really never thought I would be saying this about someone on an internet forum, but I am. I will miss him. It's inadequate to say this, but my thoughts are with his family.

Met clavicembalo twice, at Solari's first baroque day, and at LooneyTunes' second Cardiff event, where I had the pleasure of having him accompany me on the Lutoslawski Dance Preludes. A thoroughly great guy, who was a good friend and he contributed much to these forums and the live events, and I'm sure he had so much more to give.

My deepest sympathies go to all who knew him, his family and friends.

I am saddened to hear the news and feel privileged to have met him in Cardiff last month. He was such a lovely gentleman and a great pianist.

I was looking forward to hearing about his progress for the next try at DipABRSM.

Sorry I can't remember who mentioned the idea here first - I too would like to know if there was a charity he was fond of.

Oh my goodness, this is a terrible shock, I had no idea he was poorly.

He was a brilliant composer too, he sent his duet composition to Chris H and myself called The Music Box, it was beautiful and we had hope to play it at Pro corda. Unfortunately it was a little too difficult for us to manage.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family whilst they try and get through this sad time.

I am in total shock!!!

I was looking forward to hearing him play his diploma pieces at Dyrham Park this December and was going to pick him up from the train station that day. Earlier this evening, I was actually about to email him to ask him to bring those wonderful Happy Birthday Variations when I received the email from Skylark telling me the dreadful news.

We will definitely miss you loads...

Most of us will probably remember clavi posting about the good friend he lost, only a month ago. He was a fellow teacher and he'd greatly enriched clavi's musical life. How sad that what clavi said at the time should now read like his own epitaph, but what a wonderful epitaph to have...



His family can be rightly proud of him, because he did truly enrich a lot of lives.

I never even met the guy, but he seemed like such a lovely, genuine man and I'm so incredibly upset to hear about this. Even on the forums, amongst people who had never even met him he was so well-liked and I'm just seriously having trouble getting my head round the idea that he's gone! I knew he was ill but didn't realise he was so very poorly, my deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends, what a dreadful shock I never thought I'd say this about a person I'd never met and had conversed with only over the internet, but I will genuinely miss him.
RIP Clavicembalo, and although it's our loss here on earth, if there's a heaven, it's definitely their gain!!!

I am really shocked. I was fortunate enough to play a duet at Cardiff with David - he sight read - and we had such fun as I struggled to keep pace with him.

I drove David home and we had a lovely conversation. Although I had only just met him, I felt as if I had known him for ages. I will miss his lively and engaging posts.

I will find out details and let you know. No date as yet.
