At 12.20am, only 306 posts are needed to make 1,000,000 posts on the forum!!! party1.gif

The average daily post count is usually over 300, so it's likely to happen sometime during Tuesday 26th. Who's going to be the one to make the 1,000,000th post biggrin.gif
Stephie
Mememe! I hope laugh.gif

Drift over the reply button on each post, and a link address will appear, where the post number is the final bit of the link : this post is, for example, post number 999728. smile.gif

In the top right hand corner of your post, it says "Post #3". If you click on that, you will see the URL and at the end of the URL line is the overall post number, which in your case is 999727.

Thanks! (Just helping the count along a bit! tongue.gif )

laugh.gif It'll actually be comparatively difficult to know for sure that you're getting post number 1,000,000 : you may have spotted post number 999,999, but someone else may be posting elsewhere at the same time as you are!

Personally, I hope post 1,000,000 is a 'normal' post (i.e. a post that isn't on this thread purely to make sure the poster has got the millionth). smile.gif

biggrin.gif I probably won't be online again today until after it's been and gone.

A million posts... I wonder how many of those have been in the cafe and how many have been about, er, music biggrin.gif

mad.gif It DID happen. mad.gif

The only reason you think that it didn't happen is because people all over the world put in an enormous amount of time and money to ensure that services would not be affected. (Including me.)

Agree with the post about the amount of work that happened to stop the millennium bug, the work started at least a decade before 2000.

IMO If it doesn't happen at 1,000,000 then it is not likely to happen until 4294967295 + 1

It is the highest number you can get with 32 ones or zeros - and a much more plausible suggestion than mine.

I note the IT industry didn't make any attempt to quash the urban myth leading up to the "event".

I can think of 2 reasons:
1. There was still money to be made from those who didn't realise ('cos they hadn't been told) that it was actually all going to be fine.
2. It might all have gone t1ts up anyway.

It's a very valid question Panthera.
My experience with online retailing makes me wonder.
When you start a shop you don't want your first customers to think you have only just launched and that they are the first - you want to show a success track record both for customer reference numbers and for order numbers.
For my main retail business we started order numbering at 10,000
- so it is not impossible to do this with a forum
- but this is the ABRSM, so they will have started at o! Perhaps old posts have been archived?

Nope : 1,000,000. In the days BBC (Before Barry Clari laugh.gif ) there used to be separate fora for clarinet and flute, amongst other instruments, and I'd imagine there were a number of similar administrative posts attached to them that have long gone...

Congratulations on submitting one million posts on the forum! We greatly appreciate all the advice and discussions that take place on these forums on a daily basis. It is a real testament to your passions and professional knowledge that collectively we have reached this epic figure.

We are honoured to host this network for musicians - be they teachers, learners or anyone with an interest in music. And we hope that this facility and, of course, the members continue to support the music community in the future.

And, in order to commemorate this achievement, I would like to offer a branded ABRSM mug to the lucky one millionth poster! (Babybird 2, if you are willing please supply me with your contact address ? via PM or email).
