I shall celebrate the opening of a dedicated Events forum with a thread for the Players for Pleasure concert in Leeds on Sat 8th Jan - thanks, Ed! hurrah.gif

Most of the info is on the Players for Pleasure web site and feel free to PM me if you'd like to come and join us, or email if you've got my email address.

The list of participants so far is on my profile but we might be able to squeeze a few more in as we've got two concert rooms now at the new venue biggrin.gif

I've said I would like to come along to this smile.gif

Would any flautists be interested in a flute group?

Also to Lois I would like to be in the clarinet group! smile.gif
fsharpminor
I am hoping to come , and will be happy to help with accompaniments.

Is there a clarinettist , plus either violist or cellist who would like to play a movement from Mozarts Kegelstatt trio K498 ? I played the piano part when I was 16, and not done it since. It's my favourite Mozart.
Emma Johnson is playing it in Leeds on Jan 18th.
Pixie*Porsche
fsharpminor - sounds great would be interested - Clarinettist! ) can you pm me details / music?

Celeste
For those who haven't seen the other thread - I'm organising a string ensemble biggrin.gif

PM me your details if you'd like to be involved (instrument, approximate standard etc smile.gif )

Nicia-Clarinet-Flute - i play the flute and would be interested to play in a group if anyone is organizing one smile.gif

Also, I am planning to play a flute solo, would anyone be interested to play a piano accompaniment with me? biggrin.gif please? happy.gif

Looking forward to this as always! smile.gif

Will accompany if required. I may need an accompanist too if I decide to sing again this time.

I'll bring Herman along so long as the clarinet pieces have an ultra easy part! clarinet.gif

Great. The fist two movements are about 6 mins each, the last is a bit longer so probably not allowed by Skylark.
I actually dont have a copy anymore, but am happy to pay for one for all three of us.
Before I order it I need to know we have someone for the middle part, as far as I recall it can be played on either viola (preferable) or 'cello. Any takers ?
I have a CD - its an inexpensive Naxos one.

I don't know of any cellists coming, but there's a viola player coming. I don't know what level you would need though - she's around G4 on viola but a very good pianist so she'd be OK with the rhythm at least. She's not a forum member but I can give her your email address if you want to discuss it with her.

I'm working on the application form and it should be ready in the next day or two. If anyone hasn't got an accompanist and would like one, I'll sort it out when I get the forms back so the sooner the better. And if anyone hasn't got a duet partner and would like one (or two), again I'll sort it out when I get the forms back party1.gif
Celeste
Just to say - very willing duet/trio-er here! wave.gif (Violin, voice, rusty on flute, descant recorder, piano) tongue.gif

Would anyone be willing to do any easy violin duet with me? I have a piece in mind (which I did with my teacher a few weeks ago) but am open to other suggestions as well. smile.gif

Edit: I haven't been able to log on to the players for pleasure thing at all, so not sure what's already been discussed...

Make sure everything is in lower case - but no matter, this is now the "live" thread so you won't miss out on anything smile.gif

It's 8 weeks to the concert date and we all know how quickly that 8 weeks will pass, especially with Christmas in-between blink.gif A tip I learnt from Philip Johnston's Practice Revolution book is to plan a schedule so that you don't run out of time towards the end. So it might look like:

Wk 8 - learn hands separate at slow speed
Wk 7 - learn HS at or beyond performance speed
Wk 6 - learn hands together at slow speed
Wk 5 - learn HT at or beyond performance speed
Wk 4 - Record yourself playing under pressure
Wk 3 - Rehearsal performance to a supportive person(s)
Wk 2 - er, Christmas!

Well you get the drift anyway - I think this is a good idea so FWIW I'll pass it on. (Philip Johnston also recommends that the countdown schedule is used between lessons to make sure you don't go to lessons half-ready.)

The application form is now downloadable from the Concert Info page on the Players for Pleasure web site. The sooner you can get the forms back to me, the sooner I can allocate accompanists, fix up duets/trios for anybody who hasn't already arranged something, and the ensemble directors can start allocating parts. The large ensembles are Clarinet (lois), Flute (Nicia-Clarinet-Flute), Strings (Celeste), Choir and Orchestral (both MusicGuru). Many thanks to the ensemble directors for volunteering!

My teacher PianoGuru is willing to accompany advanced pieces. If anybody wants him to accompany a G7/8 piece, please let me have it as soon as possible, preferably in the post but by email otherwise. One or two other people may be willing to accompany G7 pieces and I'll leave it to them to post here if they wish.

If you're sending pieces by email to your accompanist, please try to send files that are under 1MB.

Please try and get your form sent back within the coming week if possible!

Skylark - have we got to know what piece we intend to play solo for the concert, already? Not sure what I want to do and weather it'll be accompanied. What is the time limit? No Mozart Clarinet Concerto?? wink.gif

FSharpMinor - Sounds great. Would definetely like to do the piece.

FLAUTISTS!! - Is it OK if you PM me your intent to join the flute group and your level on flute?

Clarinet group, Lois, am I on the list to be "in"? smile.gif

You'll see it on the application form when you download it, but it's 6 mins max (which includes any introduction you wish to make) and no, you don't have to let me know just yet what piece you're playing smile.gif

Nova has deregistered from the forum but she's coming to the concert and she'd like to take part in the Strings and Flute ensemble. She can't PM with having deregistered, but I can pass on her email address to anyone who needs to discuss concert stuff.

I think the piece I had in mind is above that. unsure.gif It's in the Baroque Violinist (ed Sheila Nelson, pub Boosey and Hawkes). Do you have a copy of the book to look at? smile.gif The only other duet I have is definitely around grade 4 because it's on the syllabus.

I love the Leeds concerts, but this time the 8th January falls at a time when I am not yet clear whether or not I will be able to make it. As a result, I had better not commit to any pieces, groups or accompaniments just in case I don't come, but you can be sure that when things become clearer I will come if I can biggrin.gif .

And if not, I wish everyone a great day and hope to see you all again in July party1.gif .

Nova, you already have my email address. I'm almost certainly going by train this year. Probably the 07.45 from Scarborough, and something around 8.00ish return in the evening, to allow for a meal. M is giving this one a miss. Will probably book the train tomorrow.

Referring to the Kegelstatt trio again, sbhoa has advised me there is also a version for two clarinets and piano, that would give us more choice if we can get a copy and another clarinettist would like to play it with Nicia and I.

Going back to the Mozart Kegelstatt trio. Sbhoa has kindly agreed to lend us her the score of her version for two clarinets and piano. So is there another clarinettist who would like to play it with Nicia and I ? I guess it will need a grade 7-8 player.

The normal version of the score can be downloaded from http://imslp.org, and search under 'Mozart' and then 'trio'.
We would get the Clarinet 1 and piano part that way , but as the middle part is normally viola, we could borrow sbhoa's copy for Clarinet 2.

There is also a down loadable violin alternative to Clarinet 1, so I suppose it could also be played as violin/clarinet/piano
On my recording 1st movement is 5 min 40secs. Second is 6 min exactly. Third is over 8 mins so too long.

I put my application form in the post this evening! smile.gif

Skylark - it would be great if your piano teacher could accompany me for Italian Dance - I've included a copy of the music with my application form.

How many ensembles/ solo turns are we allowed to participate in?

I'm planning an oboe trio with Emsoboe and Amber-piano, a performance of one of my exam pieces and hopefully will be part of the orchestra.

I'm happy to have a go at accompanying if you need an extra one, but also happy not to if you have enough. I'll leave it to Skylark to sort out!

Really looking forward to it! smile.gif

How many ensembles/ solo turns are we allowed to participate in?

Solos - either one solo up to 6 mins or two solos totalling 6 mins. If you do two, they can be on different instruments and played separately if you wish.

Ensembles - if it's a large ensemble (flute, clarinet, strings, choir or orchestral), then anybody can take part in any of them, assuming the directors have a part for that level. There might be some doubling up on parts.

Duets, trios, quartets - I've allowed for two on the form. Occasionally somebody plays in more than two, but usually because I've particularly asked them to partner somebody who hasn't got any duets organised.

As multi-instrumentalists will testify, it's sometimes difficult for somebody who is in a lot of slots to fit in all the rehearsal time and still have some time to relax and socialise during the morning - less is sometimes more biggrin.gif

Yes do play a solo - when you see everybody else doing it, it won't seem as scary! And by that time you'll have met everybody and probably played in one of the ensembles or a duet.

You know very well she has a Clarinet tongue.gif We've even got a Bass Clari at the moment, on loan, not sure how we are travelling so not promising to bring it.

Last time Emsoboe played Clari the person conducting stopped and asked if she was playing the right notes laugh.gif He was a bit bemused as the tone was ok but he didn't quite recognise what was being played.

Anyway the tempo of the 1st movement of the Trio is about Dotted Crotchet = 48. Nicia-Clarinet-Flute - hope this is OK for you too. Timing is 5 mins 25 secs.
