Well i have so many students these days i've been thinking 'would'nt it be good to get them together and form a Community Jazz Big Band' esp as i'm focussing on the Jazz Syllabus. So i've managed to find a community centre for £20 for 2 hours on the weekend, so far about 10 students seem keen. The motley crew so far would consist of 3 or 4 saxes, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, a double bass, Congas and myself filling in on guitar or whatever until i can find a piano player and drummer.
So here's the rub.......material, where to aquire it and costs involved.
Thoughts very welcome!

Try www.simplyreeds.fsnet.co.uk (or perhaps www.simplyreeds.co.uk) and email Jon Halton - he's excellent at getting music, for a price.

Can't you share music with the music school you work for if they have a concert band, big band or jazz band. I think the Hal Leonard US music which many schools use is a minimum of 60 pounds a piece for band arrangements, so quite expensive.
Also county library services have sets they lend out, and many are now searchable on line which helps

Success, their are many Big Band arrangments in PDF format available via the internet and many are free also i just discovered the ABRSM have a small number of reasonably priced Little Big Band arrangements so i think i'm sorted now. Now as regard the School i work for, they principally concentrate on piano and have no band but i intend to change all that!
