Does anyone know of any websites where you can find some good violin and viola duets? My friend (violin) and me (viola) would love to start playing duets but they are really hard to find. Websites where you can download them as free pdf files would be best, as we don't really have enough money to buy sheet music. We are both about Grade 5 standard so the duets could be easier than that, but not much harder (especially for me biggrin.gif )

I don't know what standard your friend and you are, for simpler tunes there is www.violinandviola.co.uk but as I say, these are really rather easy and may be a little bit under you.
Anyhow, happy playing! biggrin.gif

Violin and Viola duets are quite hard to come by actually. I only own two books of violin/viola duets... one is a set of barn dances, and the other is an arrangement of Bach's 2-part inventions!

The Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia is nice though, but difficult.

Not free but used to be good value: "Duet Sessions", Livingstone Gearhart ed., published by Southern Music but available through June Emerson. These are general purpose duets for highish instruments, so no viola clef, but it's good practice for a viola player to read treble.

There are others in the same series, including "Fiddle Sessions", "Bass Clef Sessions", "Flute Sessions", "Clarinet Sessions", with works for two, three and four instruments. The chosen works are very varied. Two of my favourites from "Bass Clef Sessions" were a madrigal by Palestrina and a jazzy arrangement of "Little Brown Jug", which my family used to perform about 25 years ago: I played horn, my son trombone and my daughter bassoon.
