Cellohan - that is incredible!!! I can't imagine at 13 being grade 7 on cello!!! Fantastic. When did you start? How often do you practice?
And charleymer you're doing brilliant too!
I took up the cello over a year ago as a 'mature' student of it, haven't taken any grades on it, not sure if I will in the future either, despite having grade 8 piano and happy at performing etc.
I would guess I'd be lucky to be even near grade 4. I have looked up the higher grade syllabus' and for example can play Menuet I and II (Bach solo cello suites) - but not good enough or consistent enough for an exam. And the scales at the high grades - wow!
A friend of mine took up the cello late in life too (she got me started!) and she is currently attempting grade 4 which is impressive. She did grade 3 and was intensely nervous she said (she's grade 8 piano too).
Best of luck with your grades - would love to know what pieces you are doing.
Do any of you play solo in concerts or perform anywhere? In orchestras?
And do be patient with the cello mob on these forums - they are here, just a bit shy I think! cool.gif

The scales at grade 7 are the worst!! and the aural tests are even worse!
I am playing
1) Ave Maria- Gounod
2) Nocturne, Op.19- Tchaikovsky
3) The Train Whistle- Aaron Minsky
from the 2003-2004 syllabus
I recommend The Train Whistle because it's so fun to play!
But I got a cello this week, and its 120 years old, but I can't play the train whistle on it, because it doesn't sound right.
Do you think I would be ok to take in 2 cellos to my exam?
