Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had any music software they could suggest. Ideally i would like something to help with my compositions but don't have a clue where to start.

Thanks
Andy

Sibellius? I have sibellius and they're bringing out a new student one that's about £90. But maybe you're talking about something like a chromatic tuner? Then again, u might be talking about really high tech stuff that I won't understand. huh.gif

the type of software you want depends on what you want it to do. is it for recording your compositions? scoring them out?

also what kind of compositions are they? for example if its a drum and bass piece you might like to try out Acid (no, not the drug) combined with soundforge....but that would be much less use if they're classical.....

music software is a complicated area with alot of diferent choices, so maybe you could do a few google searches and see if theres anything there that can help you narrow down what you're lookin for. the 'sound on sound' website (its a magazine) has a lot of good articles and might be able to point you in the right direction.

hope ive helped

It is for compositions and scoring really and im interested in sibellius is it any good-good enough for A Level music and possibly further?

sibelius should definately be sufficient for a-level and further, i think somebody said they are bringing out a student version as well which is a bit cheaper that usual biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif Yeah, I saw the advert in our school. Sibelius is tricky at first, but you soon get used to it. You might (I dunno) be able to get a trial pack or something or maybe see if your Uni or College / School have it so you could try it out first. blink.gif

sibelius is good, but expensive here (NZ)

Sibelius 3 is meant to be the best on the markest for scoring music, but if you are more interested in synthesizing music then i think Cubase SX is the best way to go. Also, if you are getting software I would recomend you to get a midi keyboard so that you can here chords before you add them in.
