Oops, re-read the flyer, all brass sections need some more players. If you're G5 and up, and within striking distance of Froyle, do let me know! The workshop will run from 10-5.

Does the grade 5 standard mean grade 3 sight reading or grade 5 sight reading? Just trying to clarify for people who don't take exams.

I would take it that Grade 5 standard generally means somebody who is at the standard to take a grade five exam.

I would imagine that being post diploma you'd be fine Morton biggrin.gif

Sadly too far away, otherwise I would love to sad.gif

It is for anyone who thinks they'd get something - and contribute something - to working on Beethoven 5 and Sibelius 2.

I think I'd want to improve a bit on my current 'celloing standard before attempting both those fine works! laugh.gif Hope it goes well smile.gif

Back desk cello inside player. You will be fine. Remember for grade 5 standard you only need to be able to sight read grade 3 standard music. As cello is second instrument you should be fine.

You can probably sight read better than the people who are grade 5 on their first instrument. Also it is often very useful to have a lower standard player who can count!

I appreciate the confidence you have in my 'celloing, morton, but I think I'll hang on before tackling the standard orchestral repertoire!!!!! laugh.gif

What happens when someone takes up a second instrument is that they tend to compare what they can do on that to what they can do on their first instrument. However the course that you have in mind might have people who are grade 5 standard on their first instrument, as it says grade 5 standard minimum. These people may only have a sight reading standard of grade 3, however even if their sight reading standard is grade 5 I would say that most of them are going to struggle with the Beethoven and especially the Sibelius. So although you may think that you can't tackle this music, non of the other people who probably aren't going to make a better attempt at it than you can do think they can. So someone who maybe can't play as many notes, but who can stay in the right part of the bar might be a great help.
