Thanks, sbhoa. Have you worked with them both? What do you find are the major (if any) differences? Just looking into possibly using this exam board for the first time, because I understand they do a traditional syllabus too.

I've only used LCM for pre grade 1 exams so far.
Aural is different and scale requirements seem to be about the same.
As with TG the exams are arranged by the local rep so it can be easier to sort out dates and times.

If you are thinking about LCM for your Grade 6 candidate it may be worth you knowing that Grade 5 Theory is required for Grade 8. I know it may be sometime off or there might be other reasons.

Daughter has entered Jazz exams with LCM I don't get the impression the standard exams are marked at are that much different from ABRSM. The first time we got a wonderfully detailed comment sheet the second didn't really say anything at all.

Knowing when the exams are and here the fact they are on Sunday is a big bonus.

I've found the standard the same, but LCM comments slightly more useful (they realise that not everyone wants to be a professional musician)

I'm sure it varies between instruments - I've found the Classical Guitar pieces to be at least a grade harder with LCM when compared to AB. There's even a review on Amazon on LCM's guitar grade 4 book which says the same, so it's not just me.

That's interesting; after comparing the AB and LCM violin grade books, I had wondered that too. They did seem to present slightly more of a challenge, although in this case perhaps not as much as a grade.
