Pazzion
Hi all,

I am currently preparing for DipABRSM (Performance) for piano and planning to take next year Jul.
Here's to share with everyone my current programme. Havent added the total timing yet though:

a) Scarlatti 2 Sonatas in G, Kp.259 (L.103) and Kp.260 (L.124)

b) MozartSonata in C major, K 309

c) BrahmsIntermezzo in A Major Op 118 No. 2

d) Planning to do Faure Barcarolle in A minor but havent decided.

Im seeking advise as to whether the programme above will be fine. I have been pondering about the range of repertoires i have chosen and wonders if the examiners will questions the choice of keys. So far, most keys are easy except A major, that has 3 sharps.

Would be great if others could share what kind of programmes they have chosen before. Much appreciate it.

cheers

This sounds good to me - covers a range of styles, etc. The only thing I might wonder is if you want something a bit more... I don't know how to say it... loud/powerful? I took the exam twice before passing - first time my programme was:

Bach - Prelude and Fugue BWV 874 in D major (WTC II)
Schubert - Sonata D. 664
Liszt - Sonetto 123
Debussy - Ballade (own choice)

For the retake, I switched the Bach for two of Bartok's Bulgarian Dances, because a) I didn't like the Bach at all, and b) my teacher felt that my original programme was too uniformly light and lyrical. So I broke the "no baroque" rule, but the examiners liked the programme anyway, and either way I did much better the second time around smile.gif Just something you might want to consider if you haven't decided on the last piece yet - I think something more "technical" would contrast better with the rest of your programme than the Faure, and would give you a strong note to end on! You could try the Bartok (though to be honest, I wouldn't have chosen those for myself if my teacher hadn't recommended them ph34r.gif), the Poulenc Toccata, Scriabin or Shostakovich preludes, Prokofiev Visions Fugitives... also not on the syllabus areDebussy's Jardins Sous la Pluie (technically on the LRSM syllabus but really not too difficult) which is lots of fun, or something from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet suite (my favorite work of Prokofiev) biggrin.gif

Yes its a fairly 'safe' programme Pazzion, but if those are the pieces you enjoy, then go with it !
I would do Shostakovich or Prokofiev rather than Faure though, a bit more exciting. But you cant argue with Scarlatti, Mozart and Brahms

I like your programme, but to balance the 'lyrical' and major key bias ( I can't see a problem with the keys in your programme being 'easy'), I would suggest, as f#m has, that a Twentieth Century piece would work well, rather than the Faure. Some excellent suggestions have already made, ...
Here's my DipABRSM programme, as you asked so nicely.
Scarlatti Sonatas In E Minor & E Major
Haydn Andante & Variations in F Minor
Brahms Rhapsody in G Minor
Prokofiev Visions Fugitives, no's 8, 14, 19 & 20.
