Welcome to the club.
I now have 3 grandchildren and love them all to bits. I can see you now in your second childhood, playing with trains (I know its a little girl, but you have to buy her a train set biggrin.gif ), making cooing noises and generally acting like all granddads do.....silly rolleyes.gif

CONGRATULATIONS yay.gif

You most certainly do! I wanted a train set for my second birthday, and I got it. And I still own it (and it still works!)

Congrats to CJB too smile.gif

congratulations to all....

....apparently when my dad heard that he was now a granddad, he drove his car down some stairs at the carpark at work, in his excitement. Didn't find that out for about a decade and a half laugh.gif.

And yes, if you haven't already concocted a list of Grandfatherly Things to do, have fun devising one. My dad started with Putting Baby On Tummy To See If Head Can Be Held Up, and after about eleven years was building water rockets in his garden biggrin.gif.

My Dad's 'Grandfatherly Things' currently include paying orchestra fees and making regular contributions to the 'Full Size Fiddle Fund.'
I hope FsharpMinor is planning ahead for FsharpMinimus (Anna's) musical requirements.

I add my congratulations too, and welcome to the Grandad's Club!

eep, I'm glad my dad didn't though - it's such an individual thing as to whether music will necessarily be part of a child's life. What he's done instead is use the skills and interests he's had to engage his grandchildren, and the beauty of being a grandparent is that one can hand the child back at the end of the visit (and from the child's point of view, they can experience a different pace of life, usually).

My Grandad was one of my favourite people as I was growing up. I miss him every day. He taught me about the world, about nature and about music. I don't think I'd be a 'musician' now if it wasn't for my Grandad. So to the Grandfathers of the forum - I think you're amazing people. And I hope your grandchildren love you as much as I loved my Grandad. wub.gif </soppiness>

What a lovely post, Celeste, thank you!

My maternal grandad had died before I was born, and my paternal grandad died when I was about six, but the real problem was that my father, when he was a teenager, had fallen out with his dad so we hardly ever saw him anyway. My dad was the best, probably because of his traumatic experience, and I wish he could have seen more than just my first son, as he would have loved all three of them. My five grandchildren always give me a hug when we meet, even the youngest one, so I must be doing something right!

My 'real' Grandads, both maternal and paternal, both died before I was born, so my 'Grandpa' was really my mother's step-father. Grandpa didn't have children of his own and claimed to 'dislike' them, but I must have worn him down eventually! laugh.gif

To me, signs of affection are a massive hint that you are doing a lot right!! biggrin.gif

Well even a hardened grandad like me had a tear in his eye - she is lovely.

Fingers nicely curved ready to learn the piano, I see!
