...anyone want to come to a Prom or two or three or four or five? biggrin.gif

Post here or message me in some way if you do : I'll pick a selection of Proms when the listings come out next Thursday, and will go from there smile.gif

Might be possible this year smile.gif

Cool smile.gif

I'm at home a lot more this year than last (only a few days in late July, Aug 6 and Aug 19-23 are definite no-nos, so there should be lots of choice biggrin.gif )

I'm in!

Subject to the whims of the Royal Albert Hall booking system huh.gif I shall in all likelihood have a season ticket again this summer. All Forummers are cordially invited to track me down after the concert and place money in the yellow bucket I shall no doubt be shaking most evenings.

They're not using that useless system they used last year, are they? rolleyes.gif

The thing that I disliked most last year was that there was no where to say "Keyboard side please" for concerts where I wanted to watch the pianist's hands.

Defiantly interested in going to some.

Formal announcement is tomorrow at 12:00 noon biggrin.gif

(though if you trawl the interwebby, you'll probably find some info has already leaked out wink.gif )

I would love to come to the Proms - don't live in London though and not sure I want to pay congestion charges / massive parking fees. Do not know the place at all!!

In which case, go against all your instincts, and get a train into London! If you book in advance, it's very cheap! smile.gif
barry-clari
Proms listings now out biggrin.gif

Still reading through, but this looks a pretty good season (even if there are no Sea Songs in the Last Night programme! ohmy.gif )

Anyway...

My initial thoughts as to Proms I'd like to see are :

Prom 18 (Thu 28 July, 7pm) : Pahud plays a lot of flutey things (by Elliot Carter and Dalbavie), plus Beethoven Symphonies nos. 1 and 7.

Prom 40 (Sat 13 Aug, 7pm) : Tim Minchin does funny things.

Prom 61 (Wed 31 Aug, 7pm) : Yo Yo Ma plays the new Cello Concerto by Graham Fitkin, plus Beethoven Symphony no. 9

Prom 65 (Sat 3 Sept, 7pm) : Elgar Cockaigne, Berkeley Organ Concerto, Rachmaninov's Paganini thing and Kodaly's Hary Janos suite.

...and I'd like to go to Proms in the Park, but don't want to go alone (all together now, aaaaaaah laugh.gif )

louise1712
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah tongue.gif

They all sound good, would like to see one but would have to be an afternoon one so I can get the train back home in decent time.

I know. And the clarinet cadenza hasn't been part of it for ages anyway. I tell you, the BBC are anti-clarinet. ANTI-CLARINET! It's a scandal. Give me the Director-General's phone number.

Alternatively, there is free parking across the road in Hyde Park, and the congestion zone ends about an hour before most evening proms.

I don't really like big cities and don't want to get lost. I agree train would be the best option ... I've been on more steam trains in my life than "normal" ones! And been on the London underground once which was rather scary, lol! SO, if someone will tell me:
a. which train station to arrive in and
b. meet me there

Don't think week days are a good idea for me but I may beable to make one or both of the Saturday concerts smile.gif

I finally got round to browsing the proms listings.
Two I fancy the sounds of are late evening ones - finishing at 11.15pm-ish. With my last train home at 23.58. So not worth the state I'd be in worrying about getting the train home! Besides, they are on weeknights so I'd either have to book the next day off work, or go in zombiefied smile.gif

I shall probably make a note in my diary to "listen again" to them at a civilised hour biggrin.gif

There's a weekday lunchtime one as well; on a Monday. I'll think about that, might be nice to have a Monday off work to go and listen to some French Baroque smile.gif
