Just wondering how long everyone practices their violin each day (or every time they practice if it's not every day). Usually, I do 30-45 minutes violin practice.

Hi Jade
As a violin teacher the amount of practice my pupils do will vary from nothing at all, (week after week), to 2 hours a day if they are very keen.
However, quality of practice is sometimes more important than quantity - so a really conciensious student will be very particular about achieving something specific from their practice time - whether it be successful playing of an awkward rythmn or a group of fast notes. We can all waffle through the same piece over and over, but if it's just purely a mechanical process then we aren't really practicing at all.
Your current level if achievement can also be used as a guide. In general the higher the grade you are working for, the more conciensious practice it will need.
Diploma level and full-time music students at the Royal Schools, or other music conservatoires, are in a very intensive and competitive atmosphere and will spend maybe 4 hours a day practicing, or more if they are potential soloists in their chosen instrument.
The main thing is, don't waffle through your pieces, be self-critical about your own playing - you might find you'll have spent over an hour practicing in the end and not noticed the time go by!
Cheers

Hi Jade
Yes I like to get in 30 min a day. However, I do try to get more playing time in on a weekend. This playing time is usually other music, like books with CDs No 1 hits playalong for violin, or folk music passed exam pieces like 'summer time' grade 3. Does any one else play music other than what they are working on?
