Hello
Is the fingering for E flat major and B flat Major the same as all the arpeggios I have done in grade one and two. They just seem a bit more difficult than the previous ones I've done.
Regards Mike
Gae
No, they are different.
The arpeggios in Grade 2 all use the standard fingers R.H. ascending 1 2 3 cross thumb under 1 2 3 5 and back down again. L.H. ascending 5 4/3 2 1 cross 4/3 2 1 and back down again.

Because of starting on a flatted note the standard fingers for Bb are R.H. ascending 2 1 2 4 cross thumb 1 2 4 and back down again.

L.H. ascending 4/3 2 1 4/3 2 1 cross over 2/3 and back down again.

The Eb ascending L.H. is 2 1 cross over 4 etc

I suggest buying the ABRSM scales and arpeggios book or find a second hand one for reference. Its amazing what you can pick up for 20p in a second hand book store! smile.gif The new book is about £2:95 I think! I'm sure there are loads of resources on the net too that could help.

Useful rule of thumb (ouch - sorry!) for the right hand is to put your thumb on the first white note that comes up.

Yes Maggie. I use a similar approach when teaching the EB and Bb scale i.e. cross the thumb after each flat i.e. next white note.
Cor we are so disciplined we teachers aren't we? Thats probably why I cant let my hair down and go mad once in a while, like my friends do every weekend!! sad.gif
I can just imagine the scenario at the Bar "the technique for holding the pint glass is keep your elbows parallel and raise the glass, using the wrists, and slowly at first until you get used to it. Once you have mastered the basic movement you can speed up the process!" Most people I see at these watering holes have become masters at this technique, and the speed.... biggrin.gif
