I saw in Libretto that "These Music Exams" was out in a new 2005 edition.

I asked my local music supplier (a reputable ABRSM outlet) for a copy and they said that they cannot get them yet. When I last looked on the website (admittedly not today) the new edition wasn't there.

Any thoughts when the 2005 edition will become generally available please?

Many thanks.
Rosemary
Sorry, I don't know either. I suggest you email the AB - they'll be able to give you the most reliable answer!

What's the difference of the new and old editions? These Music Exams is just for people beginning to start going through the ABRSM examination system, isn't it? One first copy is enough. Well, at least I think there's no very important stuff there.

well doesnt it include things like recommenved scales speeds etc and the general marking criteria. if that has altered slightly they'd have to do a new one

There's apparently more information on how the examiners mark the supporting tests in the practical exams and also some stuff about how theory exams are marked.

I haven't seen it around anywhere: the AB seem to have the habit (admittedly not unique to them) of announcing the release of things a little while before one can actually get them, I suspect it'll be available in a month or two.

But I think that the important thing is...play well! The speed for scales are already in the scales books and you can't just set up a strategy to the examiner's marking scheme, can't you? If you play nicely they'll give you good marks.

Thanks Christine - I'm happy to wait until mid-February when it comes out.

For those asking why my present copy isn't good enough, I'd seen in "Libretto" that the new edition contained information (I think for the first time) about the marking of Theory exams and I was curious to know more. So, I tried to get a copy and when I couldn't seem to get one anywhere, I thought I'd ask what had happened.

You are right - it will make no particular difference to the way I prepare candidates for exams. I guess I'm just curious that's all!

Is there much difference between the new one and old one?
