Bargiel's - "Adagio" - a beautiful piece. I have a CD with Steven Isserlis playing it - always transports me somewhere else!

Now you have your re-nowed cello book by Tortelio (sorry cannot remember how to spell his name) - you will be fab-u-lus.

Anyone remember him - he used to give master classes on t.v. wub.gif

How about some jazz, Tassimo?

Search Youtube for the Rastrelli Cello Quartet playing 'Take Five'. They're excellent. smile.gif

Do you mean Paul Tortellier? He was pretty good (understatement!) In fact, just buy his EMI recordings box set, that pretty much covers the bases for standard Cello repertoire (no jazz though...)

Wow.....JC have you been moonlighting! Have you had a go at this piece?

They are great and an absolute inspiration. I think that I wouldn't mind have a go at some jazz now.

smile.gif Heh heh! I thought I'd give it a go ... in a few thousand years. biggrin.gif But they're great aren't they! I sent the link to my teacher, who also really liked it. I'm looking forward to getting a bit better, so I can start to improvise on the cello. Right now, though, I'd be happy if I got first position intonation right now and then. laugh.gif

Tell me about it. Today I have a two hour lesson and over an hour was spent just going up and down the strings to try to improve intonation. I hurt like crazy after, but it was great. Every time I was a millimetre out she just said 'stop...go back...try again'. What a difference after though, just playing a very simple tune was so different.

Like you I just can't wait to move on a bit. It's great though isn't it. I was playing the South Bank theme today which was fun.

smile.gif Yes it's great. I serenaded my neighbour with a boisterous rendition of Ode to Joy this morning before work. I think, as I left, I could hear him sharpening his axe. ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Have you heard Aaron Minsky's Etudes? There are videos of him playing them on Youtube. I received the ten American cello etudes book in the post earlier in the week and they are great fun to play - if a little difficult in places.

Both, I expect. Hopefully he'll go for the saxophone first though - that'll blunt the axe a bit. laugh.gif

agree.gif These are evil to play but great fun!

My favourite cello piece is probably the Faure Elegie, because it's simply GORGEOUS. wub.gif I've always wanted to play it, and I'm not too far off it now. There's a book edited by Julian Lloyd Webber called 'The Great Cello Solos' which has this and various other beautiful cello pieces (like a Mendelssohn Song Without Words, which is sublime). The other essential is the Bach Cello Suites, which are just a compendium of genius.

Can you tell I get pretty excited about cello music!?! laugh.gif
