This is impressive but certainly not all that unusual. You are already a competent pianist and therefore have a lot of the basics already (e.g. you know how to read music, and have some expressional capabilities etc etc). All you really need to learn is breathing and fingering - the rest, you can already do!

it depends cos if u have taken 2 it quickly then i wouldnt be surprised
but it does seem odd to say that so soon

Well your teacher obviously thinks that you are very capable, which I'm sure you are. If you ae going to do grade 1 very soon though I would think it a better idea for you to skip the grade 1 exam and go straight to grade 2.

Lucky you - that's a pretty cool birthday present!
Your teacher must think you're really good or he wouldn't have suggested you doing Grade 1 yet. How soon is "soon", I wonder?

Well it is likely you could pick up a second instrument very quickly when you already have grade 6 piano.
But to make a judgement in your first lesson I would have thought was a bit rash. Quite often musical pupils spend a while building up technique and then jump into grade 3 for their first exam.

However, it can take a while to produce a good tone on the flute.
Best of luck with your flute playing though

I started the flute as a third instrument, aged 12, and I did Grade 4 in two terms. I was Grade 5 on piano and violin by then and found the flute very easy.
If you're competent on piano already then you should find no problem with the flute, although I reckon Grade 1 wouldn't be enough of a challenge - why not wait until your progress slows down a little then take a higher grade?
