Anybody see the letter in today's Telegraph about Radio 3's apparent preference for organ music in transcription rather than played on the organ?

The letter is here:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/letters...al-scandal.html

Not sure whether the R3 situation is better or worse than the dearth of organ music played on Classic FM.

unsure.gif That is not quite true. Whenever I listen to Classic FM they seem to play the Widor Toccata on the hour, every hour, even when a listener has specifically requested something else, as I have on occasions. sad.gif

On the subject of transcriptions; I heard Robert Quinney play Wagner's Siegfried Idyll on the organ at Ripon Cathedral last week, and I have to say it was probably one of the best and most memorable performances of anything I have ever heard.

...As if Widor only wrote one Organ Symphony with one movement in it, and was the only French Composer of Organ music. If only the audience knew of the riches out there.

Yes I read the DT letter at breakfast and was going to start a thread.
I do not like transcriptions, there so much genuine organ music out there. As was said Classic FM only seem to know the Widor, and occasionally Bach D Minor T & F. Both BBC 3, and Classic should be playing more

actually it was me who said it as a reply to Swell box, but I'm glad you liked it!

I might not be a great organist, but I had the privilege to listen to great organ music.
